First I just want to say thank you for all your help in the past few weeks. I started class on November 5th 2007 and just completed School with a 99.1 GPA and I am trying to pick the right company.
Here is a list that have already tried to hire me, but I have not said yes to any one yet. So Please if you have any comments or you have a company that you would recommend then please let me know. I am going to try to pick one this week. OK now I am going to be a little picky here, but I DO NOT want to pull a Flatbed- I DO NOT want a refrigeration units, but I will if I have too. OK here is the list and what I think of each one.
(1) Roehl: OK over all I think
(2) US. Xpress: What they tell you sounds good, but is it for real?
(3) Star Transportation, TN: Every thing sounds good, but again is it?
(4) Schneider National: Not my cup of tea, But hey I am new here.
(5) Swift: I will flip burgers before them.
(6) Trans AM: I don't know any thing about them.
(7) Stevens: I am still running from them right now.
(8) USA Truck: OK, I pass on this one also, but what doyou think?
(9) CRST: Do not want to run teams.
(10) FFE. Not heard any thing about them.
(11) JB HUNT:that stands for "Just Been Hire Underwent No Training" NOT
(12) Prime: Not really sure
(13) TMC: Flatbed, so NO
(14) USF Glen Moore: No idea
Now this is just a small list of the bigger name companies. Does any one have any real comment or who is better? I will be glad to listen to all comments. Again, I want to say thanks for all your help from this site.

You will get more detailed help if you are more specific in what you want.
Do you want regional versus national?
How important is home time?
You already said no to flat-bedding, is that set in stone?
By being as specific as possible, folks on here can steer you in the right direction. Or at least steer you away from bad situations.
Good luck with the job search. -
Thanks... I do not mind being gone from home up to 14 days or so at a time. I know US Xpress talk about the 10/2 14/4 which your home 2 days out of every 10 and so on. Then Star Transportation state they will get you home every weekend. not a real big deal,I am single so what the heck. I do NOT want to run NYC. Well let me say, I do not want to run it until I have been driving for a while away. I am not really sure what is best for me. I think Regional would be the best, but I am not sure of that. Any way. One other Company that I did not mention was PTL. I met a driver a few weeks ago and he was all happy about the company, but did say the Miles are a little low some weeks. But, hey I am new and I am not sure which way to turn at this point. As far as Flatbeds go, NO I do not want to mess with that right now. Maybe a few years down the road, but NOT now. Any way I hope this helps out a little.
Any more questions please feel free to ask.

Congrats on the fine work! I would steer clear of FFE. Also Lisa Motor as they are owned by FFE. Have several friends that have been raped by them. US Xpress have heard mixed. Might call Millis also. Roehl seems to be pretty good also. Might check R E West also. Saw some positive things on them is a post here. Best of luck bud.

No matter where you go....If you aren't with a trainer for AT least 2 months....I wouldn't go. If they are gonna take someone that went to school and turn them loose after a couple of weeks....all they want is someone to fill a seat. They could care less about making sure you do this the right way. I think that Prime has one of the best training programs in the country......but.....if you want to be home every 2 weeks.....cross them off your list. You might be able to swing through the house for a day.....but not for any serious time off unless you stay out 4-5 weeks. They want their trucks moving. Now, as a Lease Op.....you can take as much time off as you can afford. I know people that run for 3 weeks and take a week off.... But, if you came over here....you'd be riding with a trainer for 5-6 MONTHS.....There would be no doubt that you would be ready to truck when you got finished with Primes training program. Granted....Prime pays their B-Seat(you) drivers .12cpm while training....or...a guaranteed $600. Whichever is higher. And MOST weeks you would be doing better than the guarantee. A buddy of mine has a guy with him right now and told me he has made better than $900 a few weeks that they have been together. I'm training my wife right now and most of her checks have been upwards of $650.....but, we don't run that hard.

My understanding is that one of Schneider's big perks is the CDL school, which you already have a CDL. So maybe they're not such a great option. I'd defenitely assume by what I've gathered at this site that they're better than atleast half on that list.

Don't worry about going with reefer. You won't have to if you don't want to, as there are lots of dry box companies you can go with. If you were to go with a fridge, I'd go with Schaffer or Marten.
You should add Crete to your list of companies to work for. I worked for those guys, and I know they're good.
I also worked for Swift, and your view of those guys will steer you clear of that POS outfit. Also avoid Werner, JoBHunt, and England like the bubonic plague.
Best of luck. -
Duker,
If you get a chance PM me about your friends experience with FFE/Lisa. I've been trying to get some info on these guys to no avail. They could potentially pay for some of my tuition to attend a driving school. Unfortunately I can not send PM's but I should have an opportunity to read one.

I started out at schneider national. I cant say enough good about their training. Absolute best! I already had my cdl as well and for some reason I cant remember but I had to go through their training anyway. I think it was because I had no experience at all. But I didnt mind they taught me alot and I still do stuff the way they taught me 5 years later even though im no longer with them. If I remember right if you already have a cdl but no experience as long as you had the training within 6 months of joining schneider you dont have to sign the contract but still must go through their school. I was out 2 weeks with a driver trainer and that was enough for me cause I already got training from 2 schools so I did pretty good with him. If you need more you get more but usually its 2 weeks out. I talked my brother into going to schneider for training because it was so good. He wanted to go to sygma and I said absolutly not! Those food delievery companies are not suited for student drviers in my opinion. Any way he loves it at shneider and he's glad he took my advice. You dont have to but just go with some one who takes training driver seriously. Good luck

My bro is at Schneider and likes it. Got a 67 mph truck and it pulls good and he says They are good at the shops, keep the trucks clean and thats a plus anywhere in my book. Terminal facilities are good except Anaheim CA which is dirt. Thats all I know. Passin Thru
