You should clip it somewhere to ground the connection.

Thanks, seems a lot better than trainer companies. I spoke with Tim and he wants me to head down to Waynesboro on Sunday and then head out to Sheldon.

hawk...just don't connect the negative cable to the battery....your trailer is grounded to the truck through the king pin.......I always hook my Hot cable (I didnt use jumper cables...made my own) to the alternator of the reefer to my hotpost....(if you don't know where the alternator is the battery is fine too)...if your really worried about the negative cable just connect it to the rubber part of your cab extension.....

Notez....man you get all the bad luck LOL.......it gets better...

nope just the positive....if you ever follow a negative battery cable you will find it grounded to the frame....there is no need to hook the negative cause your truck and trailer are grounded through the fifth wheel.... and yeah I was referring to the rubber on the fairings (cab extension)......... (if your really worried you can just buy a cheap set of cables and split the cables apart so you only have one cable...that way you have one to share with a buddy.....) again there is no real need to connect the negative terminal....all it does is provide a ground......

I've been following this thread almost since it's inception, and the one thing I'm really taking notice to is the amount of breakdowns and mechanical issues you guys have been having lately. It's almost dominating the topic the past few weeks/months. What's up with that?

most of the older trucks are getting traded in now....we run em til about 480k then trade em.....they are taken pretty good care of...the breakdowns....well in one word CUMMINS.....the ISX is killing us...mechanically they are pretty good....but the after treatment...DPFS EGRS all suck donkey balls not to mention sensors go out.....a faulty sensor can cause all sorts of hell on these electronic engine....my breakdown was caused by an intake manifold sensor going bad....but it was my first breakdown besides a couple of tires (I seem to like running over bolts).... and a couple were caused by 4 legged critters that want to commit suicide by truck.... Some of the Maintence issues are not due to breakdowns either....the trucks see the shop about every 12500 miles...and when you run 3k or more miles a week you end up in the shop for the normal maintence cycles and inspections about every month....but its like everything...sometimes you just have a rash of bad luck but luckily VW is willing to pay to get #### fixed when it causes issues....Notez situation just sucks cause he lives in a middle of a frieght lane and its hard to get him back to the shop in a timely fashion cause it eats at his revenue too...(but I think alot of issues are due to us being whiney truck drivers LOL)..

But the Cummins are on the way out...we are getting new trucks every day...the KWs are getting replaced with Volvos...although there are about 3 cascadias that are in the fleet that are brand new......

I've only had two actual breakdowns this year and both are due to the Cummins ISX DEF not being perfected yet. Nothing the company can do about that, the engine is just poorly designed. However, Mic is correct about my location hampering my maintenance schedule. I'm almost always at least 1-2k miles past due. You also have to keep in mind that we run a lot of miles per week compared to most companies. My average is 3100 a week, compared to my prior carrier at 2400.

Have fun with that notez, I've been battling that crap for the past month. Common sense would dictate to just replace the DPF but oooohhhh no all knowing Cummins has a diagnostic tree to follow. This basically entails cleaning the filter, reassemble everything & then wait for it to poop out again. I finally got mine replaced on Friday in Sioux City after breaking down in Madison, WI & Rapid City, SD. Did you have a fault code come up abou one of the injectors not responding too? Just a heads up once you're up and running talk to Mike and he'll get you taken care of on breakdown pay.
