Funny how the guy thought he was "staying old school" with and 02?....LMAO!
If thats the case I guess I'm stuck in the Jurassic era...
Spoke to a O/O of 23yrs, he had an outspoken opinion regarding years than model. why?

No wonder I can't keep it straight LOL.

I'll keep my 2000 3406E Cat, it smokes less than the new ones and I don't have to worry about emissions screwing up and shutting the truck down.

I still drive an 02' Ford w/7.3 diesel. In my opinion best engine ever put in a pickup
That is so true ( well cept for the 5.9 ) .... I never had a new one and finally the chance arose and i wanted a 03 7.3 but I was a little late. the 04's were out with the 6.0 so I got one.......crew. Lariat, 4wd. 35k all done and what a POS! Kept it 10k miles and was in the shop 5 times for recalls and failures! sure it didn't cost me a dime but i was still walking while they fixed it.......
Sold it to Carmax for 33k and bought a used 5.9. What a deal!Big Duker Thanks this. -
5.9 is good motor. No 7.3 of course. I have a friend works as salesman at dealership. His manager goes to every auction and tries to find good 7.3 Fords and 5.9 Dodges. They are money in the bank. Can pickup 2 6.0 for what they give for a nice 7.3. But they have to sell them as is no warranty.

Have a 03 with a 7.3. Bought it in October of 03 and was one of the last at the dealer in WI where I bought it at.

I'd say the main reason the general opinion is that newer trucks get better mpg is because the computer is doing the job of a top notch driver. If I can get 7 and over 8 mpg with a 500+ hp mechanical CAT but other drivers get 5 mpg it's obvious what the problem is.
