All 5 of us passed the test today. We will be finishing the hiring process tomorrow, then go home and wait for a trainer to become available. It feels good to have accomplished this. I am sure to some people it means nothing, but I am happy to have gotten my cdl-a.
It was a great place to come.

Congrats, Dennis. I was going to come in and shake your hand, but it looked like you guys were busy. Feel free to stop by before you go home if you want, and good luck.

Hey Dennis, I will be up there training Jan 21st, any hints or pointers to make it even more enjoyable? What did they give you for graduation gift? What would you say are the most trucks that get issued to new drivers. Hey I could keep going!!!! Have a safe trip home, let's keep in touch, maybe we can run into one another.

Anyone else here going to be there around this time?
    Thanks!

Start asking... there's a few of us on this board that are going through and/or just went through RDTC. I'm actually documenting each day on my own separate blog... and I think I forgot to do today's post!

Dennis - congrats on passing the test! I've been taking great interest in your posts (both here and on another message forum) because a few months ago, you were in the same situation I'm in now (deciding if trucking is really for you, deciding what company you would go with, etc), and a lot of the comments and questions you have posted (before going with Roehl) were some of the same types of things I would have said, so I'm reading your posts almost as if they were my own. I'm also looking into their 11-on/3-off program, and I have a few questions for you:

    (1) What was Roehl's physical like?

    (2) I'm curious to find out how long you have to wait for a trainer for Evo 1 and Evo 2. I know you said you might not want to start Evo 1 until after Christmas, so that might not really be a fair judgment of how long you would have to have waited.

    (3) I'll be curious to find out how many miles you get per 11-day period once you're driving solo. A driver at the roehldriver forum said 5,000 (which pretty much falls into their salary expectations for first-year drivers), so I guess I want to see if that's realistic.

    (4) Once you start Evo 3 (solo, and in your own truck), where will you have to go to get the truck for the first time? And once you have it, where will you park it for your 3 days off? Are you allowed to park it at home (I'm assuming without the trailer), or will you have to keep it at a designated place?

I hope you continue to post often (or as often as you can considering you'll be on the road). Best of luck in your new career.

Unless one of the mods says it's okay to post the link, I'm not going to (even in a PM). I don't want it to be taken as me "advertising" and upsetting the wrong people.

Craig - Thanks, and it was nice to meet you. I am sure you will do fine.

Slydawg - good luck to you. I would advise you to listen carefully and be humble. And take an insulated jacket with a hood and thick insulated gloves. It got to -28 with the wind chill, but it was not bad when I dressed for it.

Zinger - Thanks, and just do it. 2 months ago I was sitting at home wondering about doing this. Now I have just completed a wonderful experience. I won't know for sure until I have spent a few months on the road, but I am certainly thinking at this point that this is what I want to do.
    1. Roehl's facility is large, well laid out and organized
    2. Trainer will be after 1/1/08
    3. Miles I don't know yet
    4. Not sure where I will get my truck. But I don't think I will have to drive my personal vehicle to WI again. How would I get it home? Yes, you get to take the truck home on your days off. Need a place to park it of course. That is my current hurdle.
I am happy to help newbies. I know daytona45's posts helped me decide.

    respects,
    Dennis in se pa

I think he was referring to your DOT physical... which, not to hijack your questions, was pretty simple. They just want to make sure you're not going to kick the bucket in the next year and can see and hear.
