I can't stand diesel techs, but I'm not stupid either. I understand that they keep us truckers moving forward, and the ones I know personally may not like me, but they do respect the fact that I keep them in business just as I respect the fact that they keep my checks rolling in.

You want to be "exceptional"? Cure cancer. You want to be a truck driver? Stop telling everyone you're exceptional...

Thanks for the input... I know there are many factors that may limit my income, especially in this economy. I am just aiming to give myself the best chance at that as possible. I will not be heart broken if it doesn't work out. I do hold high expectations for myself though. And believe me, I do not run around boasting my exceptionalism. It was the nicest way I could find to push back against that other fella I guess. As for road calls for gladhand rubbers and whatnot, I've never really been that guy.
I AM very excited about this new career. My family is too. I plan to be the best guy I can be behind the wheel and otherwise. I respect the trade and the industry and the people in it. I hope to see some of the positive folks on the road and say hey on these boards from time to time! Thanks again for the input!

I haven't bud... It was the plan for us to team together for quite some time but he and his family decided the hometime just would not work for him. Bowman was the only place we knew teams still got home weekly but, it's just not a place I want to be. I will look into to Hoffman though and see what they have to offer. Thanks!

@ boxxxtrucker: The absolute ONLY reason I am replying to you is because I don't want to have someone read your post and think I'm running around with a t-shirt on saying Im exceptional and you're not. I believe everyone can be, if they'd like. But my statement was only a positive reply to your idiotic, negative one. I try to keep things positive, that's just me... Is there something I can say to you to get something positive from you? because at this point you have said absolutely nothing constructive, or even grown up for that matter in response to my inquiry. The only thing in fact I have learned from you is that you believe you're just an average, run of the mill guy, simply because you're a truck driver and you have no chance of anything great because of said occupation. I, on the other hand have a different outlook on life. Thanks again for your time. I hope you've accomplished whatever it is you set out to do.

You want to be exceptional in this industry? Don't become one of those pessimists who puts down every new guy who wants to get into the industry.

Get off your little soap-box, unless you can work on your engine, quit whining about dieseltech's, and quit trolling this thread because, my goodness, someone's excited to get into the industry. You've shown quite adequately that you have no real advice or information to provide the OP with, so, your usefulness to this thread has waned.

    TruckerOllie Thanks this.

It will be difficult to run teams & be home weekends.
Crete is a good choice for you; they have 3 divisions; van, flatbed, reefer.
Maverick & TMC are both good.

As for the tattoos, I landed a very good job one time with a company that plainly said, "NO TATTOOS." I was able to cover mine with a long sleeved shirt and I do have a bunch of them. 2 or 3 years later they spotted them at the terminal & said, if we had known you had those we wouldn't have hired you; but you're one of best drivers, so you're safe now. Of course when I applied for the job, made sure my clothing & polished shoes were top notch also.

Thanks, I am still thinking Crete or TMC so far. I will check that Maverick today, thanks for dropping the name. My tats are on my neck and hands too so companys who say not tattoos are out for me. I do make sure I am presentable though... I did an interview the other day and I was the only guy interviewing that even had a collar on his shirt, I guess that isn't the standard any more but I like to show I care. IDK...

Boyd Bros. Transportation sometimes reimburses you for your CDL school tuition.

PGT Trucking hires recent CDL grads.(don't know about their hometime)

Fedex Freight in Hagerstown i think will be the best job around. The tattoos aren't a problem and you can be home with your family every day and still make more money than OTR. You will need to have your Hazmat first though.
