Has my radio kicked the bucket?

    I have had my Galaxy 88 for over 10 years I believe. I normally don't turn it on, but when I went to turn it on to see why traffic was stopping. It was on but no lights were on and it was hot. So I cut if off and it cooled down. Not turning on no more. Is My radio dead? :'(

    sounds like protection diode, when you hook up the power wires backwards. but if you havent unhooked it sounds strange, I good reputable tech can fix it for way less than the cost of a new 1. but if you really want a new 1, I will pm you my address!!! LOL

    Not interested in a new one. It's been with me longer then my 2nd child. I might take her to the cb shop and see if a doctor can look at her. If not I'll just get something cheap to communicate with shippers and receivers. Thanks anyway.

    My first radio was a 39.99 Radio Shack special...worked fine for what I needed it to do, namely, communicate minimally with shippers and receivers.

    yep it is trash..... and i sir am the trash can... send it my way!! lol jut take it to a shop you trust i bet repais will be less then the price of a new radio...... much less.

    I Wonder what would be cheaper a new/used cheap radio or to get her fixed? Just don't know if I'll have the time. Should be heading toward the house after I get these drops off in NYC.

    the DX88HL radios sell on ebay for around the 150 mark. once in a blue moon a new in the box will appear and still be factory sealed. those usually hit around the 200 mark. unless you smelled it burning, it should be able to be repaired. the best galaxy repair man in the business hands down is David T. Bupp, owner and tech of DBT radio in Carlisle, PA at exit 52 on I81. David is listed opn Galaxy's website as the official out of warranty repair center for all galaxy radios.

    most people take him for being a smart4$$, but he is straight forward and does not beat around the bush. give him a call. the website is http://www.dtbradio.com/

    I haven't got my baby to the doctor yet. 1 more day. Seems like when you don't have a radio. You always reaching for it to cut it on. When your radio is working. You can care less if its on. I still remember the last words I said on my old 88.
