Being on per dium benefits SNI not you that's why they automatically put you on it. The day you leave your house counts as a 3/4 day the day you go home counts as a 3/4 day and the in between are full days. Add them up times them by $59 then take 80% of that total and that's your tax deduction. I got off this quick I just told my DBL I had other sources of income and needed to pay more in takes and needed all my deductions for myself.

This IMO is a great company to get started in and learn the ropes. I don't see being able to stay here though once you're able to be insured by normal companies. They are very safety oriented and won't push you to do anything that will violate that. I do agree with some about it becoming a bottom feeder company. In SNI own memo they called england and werner there competition that means to make a profit they will have to pull the crap that those companies do to earn a buck. Which means becoming a school mill taking anyone with a pulse and abusing them till they quit. Making you team 3 to a truck for months on end then you go solo and find out to make any money you have to start taking students too. I've seen it with my own eyes at shippers the england truck stops and 3 people pile out of it WTF

Military program is real basic. They turn in your hours every month and when the VA feels like it they send you a check. You don't get extra special anything other then that.

So let's see 40¢ X 118000= $47200 or 22¢x11800= $25960 + 16¢x118000=$18800=$44760 so in the end you loose $2440 being on per diem which u make up in tax savings. Every one slams Sni per diem but do u realize they pay more then other companies? Most companies pay 08¢ or less. Any good loan officer understands per diem. Every year I get minimum $3000 back in my tax refund I file 0 0 on my w2 and have a great accountant

Hey buddy before you spout your brilliant math and tactics, remember to deduct .02 from the total pay, .24 x 118,000 is 28320 plus .14 not .16, x 188000 Is 16520, together 44840 on per diem and 47200 without a difference of 2360...

The only big hit you will take for taking the per diem is on your SS when it's time to collect. It will show you didn't make as much. As far as taxes it's either take it now or later. When I had a chance to take it I did cause we all know there won't be any SS for most of us under 50. Take the extra money and add to your 401k.

Per diem is 16¢. So 40¢-02¢=.38¢

sure man..a real quick one....I look at the lights, I thump the tires, and I have a look around as I'm walking to and from the back. I'm not magnafluxing the drums or checking to see the jb weld is air tight and all the valve stems have matching color caps. lol

Chris, I think you're missing my point. Yes you do end up paying less in taxes. By my math the average driver saves between $1,000 and $1,500 in taxes by being on per diem. The problem is that you loose those .02 cpm, which for most drivers works out to $2,000 to $2,800. In my opinion the average Schneider driver looses $1,000 a year by being on per diem.

Without that .02 cpm charge per diem could be very advantageous. There are ways around the other drawbacks that you alluded to such as reduced Social Sercurity, workman's comp, credit rating, etc. My tax guy looked long and hard at using per diem but to reduce some of my other tax liabilities but the math doesn't work.

If I have a choice between paying more in taxes while ending up with more money in my pocket OR paying less in taxes and putting more money in Lofgran's pockets I'll choose the option that fills my wallet.
