Welcome to trucking guy. That's the oldest trick in the book. You don't get into trucking thinking you are going to be off weekends. Most companies only pay drivers 300 a week for up to 6 weeks in training. You are doing pretty good. There are no set dates and times in trucking. Things happen. Loads get canceled. Get 6 months in and then go somewhere else. Because if you were gullible to follow that lie. You will be gullible and upset at the next company who tells you the same thing.

34cpm split! All you would see is me elbows and ---holes. The bad part is that being a rookie, they know they have you over the barrel. No matter where you go with less than 6 months a 5 on 2 off schedule is not likely. However, youre treatment would be better at usxpress, schneider, werner. Plus after youre weeks with a trainer you would have youre own truck. You got duped, and they did it on purpose.

CRST is paying .22cpm split and they have been forever. So he is making a lot more then some. At least he is seeing his home every couple weeks. Some don't see it for months. Doesn't seem like he wants to do otr anyway since he seems to have local work on his mind.

Good luck getting hired at another company and telling them you left your last company because they lied to you. Maybe they should teach people in TDS not to believe anything the companies say.

If they say they are going to get you home on the weekend. That usually means between 10-14 days.

If they say every two weeks. That usually mean every 3 weeks.

If they say they avg 2500 miles a week. That usually mean 2,000 miles a week.

If they say they have new equipment. That usually mean yes they have new equipment but you are going to drive the old equipment.

If a driver tells you that it stopped raining or snowing about 5 miles back. He really means about 500 miles back

Just a few translations that may help you in your new career.

I did check out maverick. their trucks runs on automatic.. I rather run on manual. Not too crazy on automatic on semi

No there is no written contract. it was verbal. but it's my word against their word. I was dumb enough to believe it. I spend 14 years in cabinetmaking field, all my 14 years was verbal agreement and not once i get screwed. the woodshops kept their word, sometimes did more to keep us happy. Why trucking world, it's different?

Yup. i was gullible. hate to admit that.

I don't think you would want that job. it's slipseating and you don't keep same trucks. the truck i got was filthy from previous drivers. Wiping everything with anti-bacterial wipes.

.22 cents split?! hell i'll run away from them! What is TDS? Yeah I was hoping getting local. I've heard you don't have to go OTR when you get CDL. You can get local but you got find it. So that why i rather get local over otr if i could.

TDS is Truck driving school. Out of truck driving school you can barely back a truck up. I know I couldn't. Seems like the people who are training some of these other drivers can't either. So you really think you have the skills to run around New York, Jersey, and PA getting in those tight docks, and dealing with those crazy people who always drive like they are a day late. Well that is probably why most people don't hire rookies in that area to drive local. You couldn't pay me enough money to do that job local. I'm sure there is a guy who will pay you chump change to drive super crappy equipment that's falling apart. So yeah keep looking. Just don't hold your breath. FYI(for your info) if it looks or sounds to good to be true it probably is my friend.

Fed Ex in Edison was just looking to hire a grad. I'm sure a lot of hump work at first in the yard but it's a start. I would have tried for it but don't have the greatest back. I'm also an unemplyed cabinet maker from Jersey. I also got a tip about Vitran out of South Plainfield looking to hire recent grads. Vitran is one of those to good to be true things. $20 an hour it's a It's a drop and pick deal there. No clue on how the hell they will train you. Also they want a 3 year contract. Not going to happen.

I was with a company that was switching to automatics and the first time driving with automatic for me; and I loved it. Most relaxing driving I've ever done. That was pulling dry bulk & liquid tankers. It was nice not having to downshift or up shift with that acid sloshing around.

Unfortunately you fell for the recruiter trap! There is no such thing as good home time and truck driving! It is very rare. Recruiters realize that they can tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to sign up and once you discover its not true you have two choices, stay out and keep driving with little home time or quit. They know they have you because you now have to pay off your school so quitting is a risky option.

I try to warn every newbie about this but for some reason they just choose to not believe me and go with what the recruiters tell them!

Maybe you can help other newbies that think the same way and let them know what it is really like out there! Here, you can start by explaining your experience to this guy.....
