What are some ways to work for a company that hires outside of your area? I currently live in N.E. Florida, but some of the companies I am looking at do not hire in Florida. I would leave Florida, but I do not have the funds to leave. When I do drive, I plan to stay out long as possible because home time is not that important to me.

Get a mailing address in a hiring area. A UPS P.O. Box works well for some drivers.str8rida Thanks this.

What companies won't hire you?

just mentioned this in another post. i live in ny and that sux pretty bad for looking for trucking job. always say the only two states worse are florida or maine. after all, how often do you go through either of them without it being a final destination? if you have any extended family willing to let you use their address (preferably somewhere central us...or maybe southern to find a company running mostly south) that would be another idea. keeping in mind that you will end up having to provide your own transportation for orientation, as you are essentially lying about your address. most companies allow you to take hometime anywhere you want to, (make sure to ask before committing. you can say you are planning on abandoning your current "apartment" after getting hired) so not really living with them shouldnt be a logistics issue.

oh...and you may want to consider moving for real...perhaps really abandoning the florida digs when you get hired. if you are giving another address as your "home", dont count on getting to your REAL home too often. florida is not the easiest place to route you to on request...thats why they dont hire there.

Yep, what the first guy said.... UPS box gives you a real address not just a P..O Box. Just don't screw yourself. There is a reason they have hiring areas.

To paraphrase John Lennon, there are no problems only solutions. Solution: Many drivers can't keep a truck at their home 20. What do many do? Find an approved and secure truck yard to park their truck during home time. Many drivers in central and south Florida drive for companies that only hire in N. Florida and park their trucks somewhere else and drive home. Some have the option of leaving it at a terminal in N. Florida, others find find approved yards or parking areas. Look hard enough and ye shall find. I have a hunting cabin in N. Florida. I own it outright. I receive mail there. I can use either address to vote or register a vehicle. -
If yiu change your address to... Kentucky.... But you always request FL for hometime, they will catch on. Find somewhere you would actually move to and have a plan to move to and then change your address to a ups box as a temp.
