Charging issues...
Just provide some strain relief on the charger plug... tie wrapping the cord to the GPS windshield mount and making sure there is plenty of slack has taken care of any issues I had with a 510.
Truckers beware! Before you buy a gps

Hey Mark, I'm Yankee Rose's other half, and a driver for 33 years.
I've spent ALOT of time on the phone with RM tech support because Rose is WORKING and because I get home first. My day starts at 2:30 AM and THE LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS GET ON THE PHONE AND ARGUE WITH SOME DWEEB AT THE HELP DESK! Neither one of us need a GPS. It's a tool that needs to work as it was intended. "I've been everywhere man" to quote Johnnie Cash but in between, roads change, new buildings go up. The road is real time, all the time. (copyrighted by me,now).
This ain't my first rodeo! I'm a bit of a techie myself, starting with DOS, BASIC, and my first Apple II, I build all of my computers and target the "sweet spot" because I'm an early adopter and don't like to pay bleeding edge prices. My advice to you is don't hitch your wagon to RM and this platform. My advice to any driver is make sure you have a map and can read it. OLD SCHOOL RULES! One EMP and the majority of the people in the know go back to analog, maybe. I still have my RM Laminated Motor Carriers Atlas from 30 years ago. When all else fails, general reckoning,a compass and a map combined with rudimentary path finding skills win the day.
Are you on the RM payroll or a paid contractor/consultant? Because I've yet to see anyone so vigorously support a platform or technology without being a paid guerrilla.
DC output from the cig. lighter outlet is a solid 12+ vdc The tractor is an '02 Volvo VNM, our first Volvo, new batteries, good alt. that has been load tested. Prefer Pete 359, 379, KW 900. I've driven this truck several days in the last year. It rides better than my 05' F150 or any truck I've ever driven, Pete and KW included.
Did you read Yankee Rose's last post to you? She already told you that she sent the unit back on Wednesday and is waiting for RM to send the 4th and hopefully final unit. Let's see what happens with that one before we discuss anything further.

If she has issues with this 4th unit, be aware that she will be out of warranty. So, my offer still stands. If she has issues let me know and I will do my best to find the reason.
I have been with this TND since its birth. One of the plankholders so to speak.
Been there and do the DOS thing myself.
Why she has so many issues with DC is what I am trying to find out.
Thanks,

I'm thinking vibration. Most of the time I've seen charging problems have been on very rough roads... and some of the interstate system is approaching goat trail. -
I remember one time I had a bad keyboard. It was throwing odd charactors. So, I tagged it and waited till GSA showed up with a new one. I had a S-3 MstSgt decide he was better than me. So, he pecked away and the next day come to me and wanted me to look at his floppy. It was pure garbage. I took one look via a file reader and told him he would have to redo it. Off he went to the CO. CO asked me what was wrong and I told him. The CO looked at the MstSgt and said he was going to have a long day. It was the load plans for about 40 flatbeds for our unit deployment which was due the next day to load us out..
Thanks,

Just thought I would check back in after this dust up. Yankee Rose bought a Cobra 7750. NOT ONE PROBLEM, works every time! Only fault on this model is that it doesn't track toll road miles.
No need to constantly sync. Power connection is barrel plug. If you rely on any unit for low bridge's stay out of NYC. Tip, Bridges in NY are 10 - 12" higher than marked on average but depends on lane choice and rut depth.
NJ bridges are actual height.
Life time maps? Really? The TND doesn't come close to lifetime quality in my book and their customer service is pleasantly HORRID. Their game is to wear you out, tick you off until you go away.
To bad, when it worked it was okay, except for the time it routed me straight to a low bridge in Camden NJ and the time I used it in the pickup in Philly. Low clearance violation!! ; 500' after you go under the bridge, NICE JOB!
I'm sure the TND 720 is a marginal improvement thanks to the non renumberated driver input.
We're VERY busy trying to make a living and will just have to write this one off like a bad debt.
SUPER DUPER ROGER 44 LEAD BETA TASTER means well but is a paid tool. GO drive a truck and get back to me in 20 years. -

Hey-I read this whole thread. My take on this-Two people who can't see past their noses.Stuck on one thing and can't get off it.The really funny part-the247trucker saying "My advice to any driver is make sure you have a map and can read it" then blames Rand McNally for going under a low bridge.Though that does seem consistant with the whole argument with Rand McNally. It's someone else's fault this problem has continued when they very clearly have a bad attitude on the phone and refused what sounds like a path to resolve this.
Mark offering help for a few reasons-He takes his job very serious and wants a quality product out,he's in a position to and finding out the source of this problem just might resolve someone else's.Then being argued against every time he has offered meaningful, ligitimate and sincere help. How many other people with a problem could have the solution though might not now becvause of plain and simple stubborness?Things act up,problems occur. That's a fact of life. How customer service and management responds is what makes a difference to me.I'm wondering how much Rand McNally offered to help previous only to be argued with.
Back to my real life.Take care.BrianMark Kling Thanks this. -
Has anyone noticed they're replying to a thread that's well over a year old?
