I wanted to know if a CDL classified driver has to meet HOS and any logging guidelines when operating a non-cmv classified
commercial vehicle ?
In other words I got a CDL recently but instead of pursuing trucking I will be returning to my prior occupation of utility locating involving a small yet company/commercial vehicle and working numerous hours of documented time by laptop but I ASSUME this does not make me responsible to manage HOS logging?
I wont be placcarding but carrying alot of spray paint and have a hazmat endorsesment to boot. Hope that would nt turn out an oops in a hypothetical ?
Just curious if someone has the skinny on any of what I am not sure of but curious ?

Unless it has changed, at one time if the vehicle weighed 10,000 lbs. or less, no logging required.

Yeah, need to get a driving record tommorrow and may have to ask ? Hopefully get a correct answer from DMV reps. Maybe they will dance around the issue if there is nt any clarity. -
heres what i found that says no you dont...
Vehicle for the purposes of the HOS rule is generally a truck, or truck-tractor with a trailer, that:
Is involved in interstate commerce and weighs (including any load) 10,001 pounds (4,536 kg) or more;
or,
Is involved in interstate commerce and has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight
rating of 10,001 pounds (4,536 kg) or more; or,
Is involved in interstate or intrastate commerce and is transporting hazardous materials in a quantity
requiring placards.kingoftheroad Thanks this. -
HOS logging is for interstate trucking with large commercial trucks or tractor trailers. I know tow truckers who work with POVs and drive to the state lines (in excess of 100 miles). They stop at scales and carry logs but are not required to keep them...

This is the interesting one which excludes vehicle weight and there are msds with the spray paint ?
Sort of a hypothetical for the line of work I ll be doing ?
