I lived in Wyoming. CRST doesn't hire out of there, so I used a family members address in another state to get my CDL and prehire. There are ways around it. Travel to a state they do hire from and get a PO BOX. You'll be set then...
Not living in an hiring area.

Anybody live in or around Savannah, GA? Any difficulties getting hired on with a starter company? Reason I asked was because although Savannah is right off I-95 & I-16, it's not too far from Jacksonville, FL and I was wondering if there was any difficulty with getting any home time when you live that far down south?
Chinatown Thanks this. -
You should have no problem finding a great smaller carrier to drive for out of GA! There are quite a few! You also have the option of hauling containers out of the port in Savannah. You just have to get your TWIC card. Central Ref. hires out of GA and north Florida and they have a terminal right there in Atlanta (Conley). Personally I highly recommend them. Just try to avoid the mega-carriers...

Hey Maverick, I dont make a habit of bugging guys on here about recruiting, but I noticed you're in omaha and I have a local spot available. Just thought i'd throw it out there since you seem to be looking for something new.maverick88 Thanks this.

Thanks for all of the replies! My short term goal is to get out to Henderson, NV since I do have alot of friends and family out there. I just need to do a little more digging.

Watkins & Shepard has a terminal in Las Vegas. They hire recent CDL grads & you might qualify for their CDL school reimbursement program. They also have a rider program. Since you have friends & family there, that solves your physical address issue. Best wishes.

Superior Carriers sometimes hires students. They do have a terminal in Savannah. Also check these with terminals in Jacksonville : Tankstar - Bekins - Florida Rock & Tank - Arnold
On the applications, ignore the amount of experience required & submit the application anyway.Last edited: Dec 22, 2012

I do know that with Florida Rock, they say that you have to have a years experience to apply, but from what I was told with the drivers that I know. Just apply out of CDL school, they'll most likely hire you.
