There is over $100 million in equipment at our Hinton base sitting there for a new base in Texas. But since things are slow in the US, they decided to hold off opening that base. The order was placed 2 years before the slowdown happened. They should be moving down there this spring.

Jobs are put off now until the new year, but still a great time to apply. The busy season is just about to start Jan 3. We are told to get ready to go full out after the holidays.

We were told that last year. Turned out to be the slowest year for a long time. Think at the busiest we had 7 or 8 rigs at on time. Lost my arse working for Trican.

Cement sucks. We are a Frac base in an area where there is a lot of work going on.

Umm yeah...don't quit your day job.

i took 20hrs training for me to feel comfortable enough to pass the pre trip and driving test. Then 3 hours the day of the test.
$90hr included the truck and instructor.

I did the training in 3 hour blocks after work and weekends. 3 hour blocks seemed about right for training.
Anther full weekend for air brake course.($200)

A good helping of common sense and the ability to listen and comprehend what others are telling you will get you far in obtaining a class 1 license. I got mine back in 2000 and it cost me a total of $235. The truck at that time was $70/hr and I called a driving school up n said I want an hour of training n then a road test. Rented truck for 2 hrs, tester was another $60 and $35 for the written part of it all. Not that hard really.

Boomtruckin...are there any outfits up there hiring O/Os to pull tridem sand cans around?

Some people get the hang of it very quickly with very little training. It would be a good idea to go and do a couple hours training and you would have a better idea as to how much time you thought you would need. A course would have helped me out alot. I do not think I would feel safe driving with me when I first got my license!

Yep. AG Sandman, T&R Transport, Venom, and I believe Predator (though I think they are fluid hauling mostly)

We use T&R more than our own sand cans. We only have 4 sand cans, not nearly enough to supply our 40+ Frac pumpers.

Abtrucker I think that's really good advice who knew lessons would be cheap. How much seat time do you think a guy would need before attempting the test? (I know that is a vague question)I already have my air and all my oil and gas tickets
also can anyone recommend a good school or instructor in Calgary?
