I have my CDLA Permit and I have been all over the internet looking for training. I had accidently found this forum and found out everything bad about all these companies like , Swift, Stevens Transport, PAM. I have called several of these companies and I didn't like what I heard. I did find on here that someone mentioned ROEHL, so I looked them up and found out they pay more per mile, benies are great and training is 1/2 the price.
I spoke w/ the recutier and told me what i wanted to here. I'll be back to let you know about ROEHL.![]()

Anyone know how many miles you have to have before they send you out west?

How Strict is Roehl on their no pet policy? When I first started looking into trucking that was one of the fringe benifits that I looked forward to (taking my hound dog with me to work). I see on thier site it just says "No". I don't want to work for a crappy company just so I can take my dog though. -

I've seen the "Leased to Roehl Transport" trucks with pets in them while I was up here in Marshfield for RDTC, but have yet to see a pet in one of Roehl's trucks. Leasing's an option, but not the best choice for everyone. As far as riders, they say they're pretty strict. For instance, only your s/o and kids can ride with you--not your brother, sister, aunt, etc.

I understand that Roehl doesn't pay you while in school, (which is three weeks) and they pay you $60 and $65 per day while in evo training (three weeks also?). So how long from the point you start school does it take before you begin getting a "normal" paycheck? I have bills like everyone else, three weeks is a long time without a paycheck and the $65 a day isn't exactly enough to support a family of three!

Roehl does have a no pets policy in the trucks, unless your blind and then your seeing eye dog can ride up front with you......

No really, the O/O get away with it because they are leased, but having looked at the contract, it's just like any other companies fleece-purchase, not worth a ####. Even with the fuel surcharge, it will be a while before you break even. -
Between school, orientation, training, and breaks in between: 2 months. There is also the $300 sign on bonus that can be used in training. $15 a day can be taken out for 20 days. This should be bumped up to $20 a day, it was $15 when I did it ten years ago. Some guys are able to collect unemployment during school, and partial unemployment during training. Some just live as cheap as they can and use credit cards if they have too. So, I guess would recommend saving up enough to cover 2-3 months of bills before doing this. I know, easier said than done. I can still recall doing this ten years ago. I was as broke as could be but did not have any kids or a wife. I financed the extra $300 for living expenses, so school was $2700 not $2400. I used to get the $1.99 daily sub special from Cousins subs. I bought a drink one day and reused that same cup for 20 days. Thats all I ate during school, one 6 inch sub a day. Once I got into training living off the $15 a day was pretty easy. It is tough to get started in this business. I am glad I did it when I was single. At least Roehl gives something in training to get you by. My buddy went to work for PAM and he said he was not paid until he completed his training. He had to borrow money from his trainer just to eat.hounddoghundzsa said: ↑I understand that Roehl doesn't pay you while in school, (which is three weeks) and they pay you $60 and $65 per day while in evo training (three weeks also?). newbiewannadoitright said: ↑I talked to one of the Recruiter/ Planners at Roehl about a month ago with the same question. Roehl is one of my top 5 list companies to apply with after school. I like alot of the things I hear about them. I have a pony tail and a Van Dyke Beard (Moustache w/ Goatee) I keep both neat, clean and trimmed. She said that was fine, the key here is neat appearance. She said my selection of clothing would be fine. I mentioned Pocket Polo shirts and cargo pocket shorts in warm weather and cargo pants ( I like the extra pockets) and jeans in Winter. No Problem. Again the word is neat appearance. You can be comfortable and still look professional. I like The black leather hi-top coaching shoes and in colder weather, padded nylon and leather Hi-Tech Boots. I hate steel toe boots, but will have a pair to wear if I need them. I think a good pair of cover-alls to slip on if I have to crawl under a trailer or truck and maybe a set of Cajun Reeboks (rubber boots) for wet and muddy.
My deal is, I hate to look like a slob. I've seen some guys in the sweat pants and dirty t-shirts and I just couldn't handle it. I guess a nice nylon jogging suit is OK; I've seen some of those, but I still like polos and nice shorts or jeans.
As for some companies, like Averitt Express I believe, you have to have short hair, no Facial hair, and wear a Uniform and a cap. Sorry, But I did 8 years as a Paramedic, 17 years as a cop. I wore a Uniform everyday, short hair, no facial hair (except for the official cop mustache, not past the ends of the mouth). Everybody told me for most of my adult life, how to wear my hair, how to shave and what to wear. Personally, I've had enough of that. I can still be neat and professional with MY hair and My beard and NO uniform.
I've said it and heard it said here before, that attitude is 90% of what your first year will be. If your attitude is good, and you go with the flow, try to work with those folks in the office, take a punch every now and then and come up smiling, you'll do well. I personally believe that how you dress and keep yourself is a BIG part of the attitude and Morale. Just ask the Weenie Dawg!!!Click to expand...
thanks for asking first. i too have a pony tail and a beard trimmed short. i am usually very well kept. and in the event i dont get a shower every day i still think i could look presentable. it makes me sick to see guys wearing sweat pants and dirty shirts. we have a job and are representing our company, maybe we,ll get loaded/unloaded faster, instead of hey man the welfare office is down the street. for me theres no excuse for looking like a bum. and i sure wont wear a uniform.
