35% of gross doing OS/OW in 1989 (about $1200 a week to me) for a 21 year old living on the beach in southern California it was a pretty good life.

My first real job in trucking 1978 DM Bowman in Hagerstown Md.$30000.00 My wife and her mother could not spend all that money back then. Bowman only had about 16 trucks then and he worked the livin snot out of us.Now he owns almost all of Hagerstown and Part of Frederick,Md along with Charlotte ,Nc and Somerset ,Pa and some I don't know about. I guess he made it all with the trucks and then branched out into real estate and what have you.

I cant remember how much a month as an E-4 at Ft. Bragg I was making in 1978;but it couldn't have been much and living was no problem for me;even with Fayettville just down the road. And as an 18 year old then there was NO shortage of things to spend $$ on in town...Or anywhere for that matter....:biggrin_255:

We're you still at Builders when Schneider bought them in 98? That happened to me when I decided to quit UX Xpress and go to work at Victory Express I was at orientation when they announced they were bought by US Xpress. I could not get away.

I started in 1986 at $150.00 a week. Trainee with a family friend, old school trucker for United Van Lines. Stayed with him for a year of OTR trucking. Almost 30 years later and working for a motorcycle company for the last 20 years, I'm close to $30.00 hour.
