You may have your doubts about them following through, but you must play along. This is where you have to hold them to their word. Play their game, but play it better.
qc message to Werner: loaded, out of driving hours, assigned daycab, need $x transferred to comdata card for hotel
- no answer -
qc message to Werner: out of driving hours, will continue logging on duty, waiting for your response regarding funds or prepaid hotel room.
- no answer -
...10 hours later, dispatcher calls
"You pick up that load, got your rest and headed back?"
"Um, no. I'm still on duty, haven't gone off duty or started my 10 hour break yet since I never got an answer about the hotel arrangements and didn't have a place to sleep."
Dispatcher:![]()
Almost sent to Missouri in a daycab, really Werner?

Dispatchers don't think truckers have any common sense, otherwise they wouldn't be truckers! Or would they?

If you take a look sometime, you'll see alot of day cabs at a motel/hotel for the night.Nothing wrong with that.If trk driving is what you wanna do then sometimes you just have to suck it up and do what they ask of you.I'm a local driver and sometimes my company will put the day drivers in a motel for the night.Happen last week with 2 drivers.

I, having had the opportunity to be in a day cab only as a result of exceeding weight limitations of my load with my assigned sleeper, can only tell you this.
A day cab is for a day delivery and I would not go out of the area with one (any more than I would 'borrow' someone else's sleeper while they are on vacation and sleep in their bed).
You put your foot down. More of us should. Bravo.
A note to live by given the great Qualcomm or Peoplenet advice of in cab computer-equipped trucks... put communications in writing. I got caught once by a dispatcher with C.R. England (note,... once) who denied a phone conversation we had. From that point on, right up to the day I walked off their property in Salt Lake City, every time they suggested I call, I had poor cell reception. They can't deny written communications and that will be your evidence in trying to keep them honest.

drvrtech77, razor ripper and Lonesome Thank this. -
Oh hogwash,Werner would have put that driver in a motel.Werner may not be the best company but what starter company is,but Werner has accounts with many motels/hotels,they would have put them up in a motel.I know because I use to drive for Werner.
ABFer Thanks this. -
I would have taken the run and got the hotel room out of pocket and asked for reimbursement. If they didn't reimburse me after helping them I would simply look for a new job. I would not refuse or complain.

Seems the majority says take the load then get a room.I have to agree. But what companies should do and some probably do is give the driver a heads up so he/she can bring a few items.

if it was me..i'd send a qc message asking abut hotel reinbursement(sp?) saying you can't sleep in a day cab. its all about comminication. shows that you're willing to get things done. btw.. i didn't know werner paid their local drivers salary.thought it was milage or hourly. also i worked for a company that sent me to az. from l.a. on a smart & final route once a week and they paid hotel and gave me food allowance.
