c15 acert blowing a lot of black smoke please help

    Thx, and now I got a small water pump leak, hopefully it doesn't leak when its running, this way I can replace it when I get home. Anyone know the instructions for waterpump replacement? I know its a 5-6 hour job, I use to work on cars before so I can handle it. Just need the instruction and any tips you guy have would be helpful. I'm also going to replace the T-sats while at.

    Trying to post a new thread. Forgot how so I will try this way. I have an 04 XL Classic with a C15 Acert that pulls great. Have had the usual main turbo problems and have worked through them by telling my drivers to watch that guage called a pyrometer! My problem now is the coolant temp will not go above 100 degrees after driving more than 50 miles or so. At idle it will heat up to 150 but as soon as u start driving it goes back down. Pulling loads of 80,000 up hills it will get to 125 and the pyro goes to 950. I have replaced the thermostats and the seals in the thermostat housing. I used to get 5.5 to 6 mpgs when engine ran at 210. Its an acert engine and I know they are supposed to run hotter for the emissions and vvas. I am stumped. I have double checked to make sure the thermostats open and close on my house stove and they are not sticking open in truck. Heater output is also way down too. Any Ideas????

    I had a guy come look at it he said it might be a valve, he said his mechanic is not in yet so have to wait for the mechanic. So my question is can it be a valve or is just trying trying to make a extra buck

    A valve where? I'm suspicious...

    It could be just a blockage in the return line!

    Idk I'm having it towed to the kenworth dealer $325 for 8 mile tow. I wanna be safe then sorry. So lets see what the dealer says. But yea ill tell the dealer to check for a block in the return line.

    Here is a update had it towed to the dealer last night, when the tech at dealer went to drive it didnt smike at all was running perfect. There going to do more test on it today
