You got to start somewhere, and most likely where you start is not where you'll be after a couple years. And you as an individual prob. don't know what kind of driver you are and won't for a while. Although you prob. have a idea of how you want trucking life to be, but that is likely to change as experience happens..... Good luck. Cast my vote for Central ref, or swift, or one of the others 'cept Prime or CRST..... How about Melton ? Maverick ?

Guys let me start by telling you that every recruiter will tell you 2500 miles a week average. THAT'S THE AVERAGE!!! You can either do 0 miles or 4000 so 2500 is the average! I can tell you for certain that you will never do 4000 at prime or any other mega-carrier for that matter.

If a recruiter tell you that they pay the highest I would run! Well, I would laugh at them first then run! The reason they pay the highest is because they don't run any miles! Make sense?! They can boast to pay you $5.00 a mile but if you only run 100 miles you ain't making jack!

I understand you guys are new but you need to avoid listening to these recruiters. They are salesman! Worse, they don't get in trouble when they lie to you guys! In order to get paid all they have to do is get you to show up for orientation. It doesn't matter if you go home the first 15 minutes, they still get paid. So many lie, forge, fraud and do whatever to get you there. Don't fall for it guys.

You want to avoid this, stay away from the mega-carriers!

Don't stress about your first year pay, most likely you aren't going to make squat your first year. This is why the mega-carriers want you. Once you have some experience if you are running for a decent company then you will be compensated for it.

Here's a real funny.... Those companies like Prime, Roehl etc... pay by practical mile. Do you know how many miles you end up not getting paid for running that way?! Find a company that pays hub miles or percentage. A lot of smaller companies pay percentage and you guys are treated more fairly this way because you are actually making a piece of what they are making. As you gain more experience your share goes up and up.

Looks like a good number of you guys on this thread live in Tenn. Take advantage of this! There are so many really great smaller mom and pop companies out of Tenn! You guys are not only going to be treated way better but you are going to make way more money at a smaller company.

Here is the number one reason a small company is better for your success: Your success lies in the hands of your dispatcher. Period! At these mega-carriers your dispatcher is responsible for over 100 drivers! This makes you a number not a driver or a human being. Your load gets assigned to you according to your location! Period! If you have a problem, question, concern, may the force be with you, because that's what's going to take! Home time? Good luck!

At the smaller companies your dispatcher has maybe handful of drivers they are responsible for. This really gives you the opportunity to build a personal relationship with them. I can't stress how important this is. You scratch each others backs. You do them favors and they do you favors. Its in your best interests because you are making money together. You are getting paid for the miles and they are getting paid for the commission. Sure you will still have crappy loads here and there but its stuff that needs to be done. The difference is if you do get a crappy load because you guys have a good relationship they are going to make it up to you on the next load or two. Either that or they will monetarily compensate you for it. "Hey Mr. dispatcher bob I had to go out of my way to wash the trailer and do this, that and so on and so forth and it took me a good part of the day, know what I am sayin....." Oh yeah, no problem Chompi, tell you what I'll send you an extra $150 for that load on your comcard. Go have a nice dinner buddy and thank you for doing that."

Ive been getting more reviews and Central Refrigerated sounds the best. Then would be Prime and then Millis. im reading more about Prime but im getting different information here then on their section. The pay the miles, training etc.

i would recommend against central i worked for them for two months and my biggest week was 1900 miles. it usually took my driver manager between 1-3 hours to respond to any messages and constantly lied to me. when i complained the company completely ignored me and told my dm i was trying to get switched which resulted in things getting progressively worse.
