Don't forget the Wall Street tycoons or oil barons that only drive to break the monotony

Had a driver tell me that he used to heavy haul. I asked him who did he heavy haul for and he said Heartland Express. If he had said Schneider, I would have believed him.

Had a guy hit me up for money at that TA in nasville, said he was a driver whose company did him wrong and left him stranded. I asked him what was the name of the company and he said, "J-MAR"
I then informed him that company got bought out in the mid 90's by Covenant. Long time to be stranded, isn't it. I wonder what it's like being stranded at a trucks top longer than Gilligan was at the uncharted deserted island.

    SpiritCDL Thanks this.

Gents! Thank you all for the opinions! Please let me clear up some questions yall had. 1) Yes I do OTR work. 2) The example I used for how I pay was in fact made up. Mr. J usually earns about a 1,000 to 1,200 a week. But has earned as much as 1800 on one three day run. He is very professional.

DuckDriver..thanks for the comments. I will take them to heart. Triplesix, I thought you had great insight on how to spot a good driver. To be honest I hadnt thought of any of that. I have noticed that the good drivers have as many questions for me as I do for them. Slav.. I take your point on the old freightliner...however, I am not sure how I feel on volvo. Though to be honest if it makes the driver happy I would strongly consider it. AS far as your friends selling their trucks and come work for me..well maybe I should be so lucky one day. Truth is that a truck is only going to roll so many miles in a week, if he can make 3 3500 runs in a week ..GREAT! I will pay him gladly, but I doubt it could happen. However as to that my brothers are college grads from UT and know so powerful people. so I am hoping that soon we will have a lot of direct freight. AND Pokerhound..I think you have a great idea! I am not sure how I would implement it, but I would love to see it work. To be honest I am a bit overwhelmed now. I am working hard at understanding this business. Thank you all again for your help
