I just recently got assigned to a 09 with the i shift. personally i love it, esp in Dallas rush hour. question for ya'll regarding using the engine brake and snow. i'm a newbie, 8 months and have yet to drive in snow. I'm pretty sure i'll have to seeing as my weekly run includes going north of Milwaukee. typically when running down the road i leave it in the first postion, i believe it shows as eco-roll on the dash or something like that. now when in snow, what are your recommendations about using the engine brake? MUCH APPRECIATED FOR ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME.

Dangerous to use on black ice for sure. I found out the hard way last year when I hit some in the dark. I slowed down (on flat ground) for a doubles that was turned over in the median. I was only going 35 mph and let off the fuel pedal and forgot I had the jakes on full. It was like being on a skating rink. The trailer starting coming around on my left. Somehow I pulled out of it, but I was scared S h * t l e s s after that happened.

It's refreshing to see someone who has the brains to work out that sometimes you have to be the 'eyes' for the gearbox, alot of people that I see criticizing these gearboxes can't figure out why the truck doesn't 'know' it's heading towards a hill or obstacle And complain it's in the wrong gear and that wouldn't have happened with a manual, other people that complain never drove one. They are a good gearbox and I think you'll be happy with it, safe driving!Elroythekid Thanks this. -

In addition, my fuel mileage has increased by 4% using the automatic. Doesn't seem like a whole lot at first glance, however, extrapolate that over a year and that adds up to some serious cash.

I'm the one guy who would NEVER want an autobox, well, I LOVE my ishift. It's very intuitive, and between the quiet, smooth ride of my 780, and the ishift I'm fresh after a 15 hr day and 1300 kms, ready to do another. My Pete and my Freightliners never came close to that.

Yup. I'm trying to figure out a mount for my mountain bike so I can do some riding while I'm on the road, exercise would do me good, I could stand to drop 50 lbs...... Was always was to burned out after a long day to even think about that.
