Speaking of snow, driving to Gary these past 2 days from New Hampshire, I went by 5 cars that ended up either in the median or in the ditch up to their wheel wells in snow. Most already had wreckers on the scene or at least some type of LEO. Slow down, people!
In the hotel, awaiting my shuttle meet up to take the rental to Midway, and then back here to wait for the first day of orientation. Fun, fun, fun! -
Yeah, good luck with that advice. I just went from Appleton to Green Bay and there were 3 today.

Always seems like, the first few snows of the season, 4 wheelers are surprised and have no clue that driving conditions have changed; unless they're in AWD in which case they are sure that slowing down doesn't apply to them.
-
Yeah they tend to not realize AWD doesn't apply to stopping.DrtyDiesel Thanks this.

First day in Gary. Mostly flatbedders at the orientation. They have one more book and more homework than us van drivers. Once our hair follicle tests come back negative, then we can pile in the trucks for road driving. I'm looking forward to dusting off my rusty skills, since I got my CDL in early October and didn't drive since then. Three to a truck, and we are taking flatbeds out, which I prefer--good vision to the rear. One of the instructors said we'd get more driving time in 4 days than we got in school. So far, everything going well.
-
That's good. One thing ill miss about flats is when empty or having a small load you can see behind you very well. It makes blind side backing a breeze and when driving down the interstate wit makes of very easy to see behind you

Yesterday was first day, orientation, in Ellenwood. 6 students and 6 experienced drivers. Everyone made it through the initial physicals, etc. The holiday MIGHT cause a slight delay in getting drug test results but hopefully we get out on the road tomorrow. Classroom and yard work today. Going in about 1 1/2 hours late today due to New Year's Day. We're ready to hit it hard and get on with the program! And hopefully the break Roehl took in December will free up plenty of OTR trainers so we can get on to Phase Two without delay next week.

I am still awiaiting for final clearance to come to orientation. I should have it tomorrow. I look forward to starting monday. I am excited and nervous at the same time. It seems as though my diabetes for which I am type 2 and loosing weight and my numbers are really good, my last a1c was 5.5. Since I decided to become a trucker I really started to pay more attention to my health and take better care of my self. Safety has been wanting to make sure I am ok. I feel like I am jumping through hoops. I was origianlly scheduled to go to orientation on this past monday but have been delayed.
Treefork Thanks this. -
Said no trucker before you ever.
