I was a team driver for Gti, actually i still am i guess. I was asleep when my co driver lost control on a patch of ice and hit a guardrail. I was injured and have been on workers comp for about 2 months now. Gti claims to be a self insured company but uses Sedgwick insurance to handle there injury claims (strange). All being self insured means (if that is actually what they are) is that they don't have to pay out as much, and they have full control over what doctors you see. Because of the way truck drivers get paid (by the mile instead of by the hour) it leaves the amount that they calculate that you should get paid for benefits open for "shall we say artistic interpretation". workers comp in my state is supposed to be 66% of your normal wages, i'm getting $199.00 a week, do the math, if that's what i or any other trucker was making a week i dare say they would have a lot bigger problem finding drivers, needless to say its a benefit of being so called self insured. And the doctors they employ are very cost effective i'm sure (judging by the level of treatment i have received). I have spoken to HR at Gti about all of this and in short "THEY DON'T CARE". Try to deal with all of that and the mountains of paperwork they flood you with makes it real hard to work on getting better, i finally had to hire a lawyer. Long story short, I'll have to just go to work doing something else when i'm able, and i'll probably lose my CDL over this because my injuries will prevent me from passing my next DOT physical. BE very carefull and don't get hurt if you work for Gti or your screwed.

Sedgwick is a huge wc claims administration firm, pretty common for companies to have a wc firm. I just came off a 2 year wc claim in CA and my employer had 2 Ins Co + the claims administrator involved. The weekly $$ amount is based on the previous 12 months of income prior to the injury date - if you feel it is wrong have your WC attorney request an audit...easily fixed if it's wrong. Oh, once you have a wc claim that is being handled by the claims administrator, the company has no interest and cannot do anything - you or your attorney has to deal with the claims administrator.

If your injuries were that severe, your settlement should be large enough to cover education for a new industry, or at the very least re-training. My injury did not cause me to lose my CDL, but I do have limitations as far as how much I can lift repetitively - so no more 70k/yr delivering to restaurants...
