MY INSURANCE LAPSED FOR VERY VALID REASONS (FINANCIAL EMERGENCY), and i was in the process of getting it reinstated. I had only been without car insurance for 1 week, and I was pulled over for a loud muffler. I got a ticket for driving without insurance. I have been studying for my CDL for the last year, and am testing this month to get my class A CDL, having failed a previous CDL driving test. I need Any advice on a place that will hire a new driver who just got a misdemeanor for driving without insurance. Obviously I'm heartbroken, and need any advice on how to move forward. Thank you- Allison.
Help! I just got a misdemeanor for driving without insurance. Please advise.

Did you already go t court? If first offense I'm sure they have a way to not have it hurt you. I.e. school, stet, etc....

Go and get your insurance before you go to court. Contact the prosecutor, take your proof of insurance in to them and see if they will move to dismiss. If that doesn't work ask them what you can do to resolve this so it does not effect you DL. If that fails then go to court and plead your case. Is some states judges have some discretion on these tickets, in others they don't.
Good luck
Don't lie about it when you apply for school. More people get into trouble for trying to hide stuff then what the offense would have done.Last edited: Jan 3, 2013

You should be fine. Its not a moving violation. Depends on where you live you might have be in a driver responsibility program. Texas has it and I had the same ticket years ago. Its never been an issue for employment. I'd check your state laws for no insurance tickets and see what other penalties go with that ticket.

Thank you. I got insurance and I will try to explain to the prosecutor and move to dismiss. That is a good idea.

Life is easier when you dont have a CDL. try to follow some advice given above, and try to get it dismissed. Having a CDL is a blessing and a curse
MJ1657 Thanks this. -
at 16 i was taught not to give the cops reasons to stop you
i'm just saying
i drove for 4 years without a license
cause i was gonna show them
never got stopped so i gave up -
rule of thumb...ALWAYS plead not guilty. usually rather than take the time and expense to bring you to court, the assistant da will offer some sort of a reduction, especially for something so minor. they want money. heck, these days they downright need it. charging you with something less and getting more money is usually the way theyd like to go. now you have the insurance, you can go speak with the da's office at the scheduled time, plead your case before him/her in 100 words or less, and while you may not financially enjoy the outcome, itll be better as far as your record goes, im almost sure of it.

First, this should not be an issue as long as you have not other dings. Just deal with it and move on.
Second, once you get your CDL you may be able to plead the fine down but you can no longer plead an offense down. They are finally enforcing laws that have been on the books for years. And yes it is being challenged but wouldn't hold my breath.
