I would have locked the door.....

I've seen a few UTurns on the interstate over the years. In each instance, if they would have gone down the road 3-4 miles, they could have got off at an exit, and reentered the proper way. Too much of a hurry?

You know, whenever I come to this site, there is always at least one new thread that I can relate to.

I was faced with a similar situation this morning. A driver from my company showed his ### this morning to one of our bigger customers. He had called this particular customer numerous times throughout the night cussing them out. He was upset that they wouldn't let him take their last empty, which they needed. It's a company rule not to pull out of this particular customer, which is stressed to the drivers and dispatchers. We'll, when I get to the customer, they don't want to let me in in fear that I'm the driver that he been calling all night cussing. It wasn't until the guard shack checked my pu# that she would let me in. Normally you just cruise through security to shipping.

When I got back to shipping the lady told me all about the driver, and gave me the number he had been calling from. I hate when someone from my company does something dumb, or disrespectful and it reflect badly on me. At the same time, who am I to risk someones job? I've almost come to the conclusion that if the customer were that concerned, they would have taken matter into their own hands by calling my company.

As far as the u-turn, and calling it in... Tough call. All I can really control at the end of the day is my truck, and how I represent myself and company.

Well, I've called in probably 6 or 7 drivers in the last few years for doing stupid or dangerous things. Especially when I see them in areas where I know the public is tired of trucks doing dumb things and the cops are cracking down. Example, EB I-70 dropping into Georgetown or into Denver. Both are speed restricted zones, 45 mph coming down Georgetown Hill and 35 mph coming down into Denver. Both areas the cops are cracking down, and both areas are ripe for increased enforcment because of public complaints. Followed a SRT driver coming down into Denver, speed limit is 35 mph, it was obvious he was loaded (reefer running, seals on the doors, climbed the hill quite slow), he dropped off the hill at 50 mph in the center lane. Now, the sign says: VEHICLES OVER 26,000 GVWR SPEED LIMIT 35 MPH and it's right lane restricted. Co-worker got a ticket on there bobtail @ 55 mph. $650 fine, 6 pts on his license, MANDATORY COURT APPEARANCE. From talking to a friend with the local Sheriff's Dept., anything more than 10 mph over, they are making it mandatory court appearance if it involves a CMV, instate or out of state license. Very few plea bargains are being given. The locals want the cops to patrol it 24/7 and crack down on speeding trucks, they now do it randomly. Three drivers told him to slow down, he ignored them. I caught up to him further down the road, got his vehicle number and called SRT to report it. As to whether they had him stop and I call in I don't know, but the BS needs to stop.

Few months before that, had a CRST coming down Georgetown Hill, same thing, but it's a 45 mph zone and right lane restricted. Smoking his brakes from excess speed, left lane, speeding. Again, State Patrol and locals love to nail trucks in that area. In some cases, they will follow you down, and hit their lights right before the scale. I called CRST and reported him, when they ran his truck number, the safety guy even commented he was out of route.

I've been called on myself, it's no fun. But at the same time, stupidty deserves to be reported. We all talk about steering wheel holders, some of these moves are the one's that steering holders will make that eventually will come back to bite the rest of us.

I personally wouldn't call on any fellow driver as long as they didn't cause an accident. With that said if one wants to call and report a driver doing a u-turn then so be it but to call in for speeding that is just ridiculous. Are we coming into the era where fellow drivers are so unhappy in their lives that they call and tattle because another driver picks his nose while driving down the road, or maybe doesn't look in his mirrors every 5-8 seconds, or left his turn signal on for a minute after he done made the turn? I mean come on everyone can say any of these are dangerous in their own eyes so does that mean they should call and report the fellow driver and get him reprimanded? Momma always said mind your own business and thats what I tell my kids also so maybe we need to follow that saying too.

When working in corrections the saying always was "snitches get stitches"

Kinda funny but I don't call on anyone unless they back into someone's truck at the truck stop and then take off. That happened once and I took down the trailer and tractor numbers, gave them to the poor driver who got hit.

I wouldn't call in for someone speeding. I just couldn't do that, I'd be a hypocrite

So if a company has a policy that you will be terminated for a U-turn.... how do they find out?

We all see bad stuff everyday and turn our heads to it. But there is a limit to where the line is crossed. Snitches rat all the time. Concerned citizens report once in a blue moon. There's a big difference.

Getting the man fired is not the case. He got himself fired if someone reported.

Doing a U-turn on the interstate is the bottom of the barrel. C'mon this is high speed travel and not some city street. If one does that they'll do anything. They don't deserve to drive if they are that lazy and impatient not to go down to the next exit. Get away once, get away twice is the way I see it. Next time it could be your wife and kids running into him.

It's kind of late now that you made it public. I would of had a private discussion on the phone with my dispatcher and see what he thought instead of going directly to safety. From this point forward I would tell that driver what you done really bothers me and was highly stupid. This time I'll let it slide. If I see you do it again I'm going straight to safety. Let him know you're serious. This ain't a joking matter. Isn't that what's trying to be accomplished? Him not do something so stupid again? I have a feeling that guy will bite his own bullet.

Doesnt matter how trained and proffesional you are. You have done something illegal and dangerous before. Nobody likes a rat. Drivers need to stick together not try to get each other fired.

I had a driver pulling doubles start swerving in the middle of the interstate, and also cut me off apprx. 10:45 one night just to keep me from passing him 3 miles before we got to a one lane construction zone. I was cruising @ 69mph, he could only go 64, and prevented me from passing him. We got into the constr. , he slowed to 45 in a 60mph zone for 10 miles. We got out of the constr. zone, I got beside him, got his truck # and called his company, made a report of what he had done, I did stress in my anger that I didn't want him to lose his job, but he need to be disciplined for what he done, because it was uncalled for.
