Mack is running same sort of set up here with the MP8 and MP10 SCR engines back to basic with the turbo fuel and no EGR seems to be going great. Get good fuel economy and not to many issue.

Take a 1000 please !

That is basically what could have been used 2007-2010 instead of the egr/dpf engine that the most mfg used..
-
Exactly right they are same emission standard as the cm871 - isx egr, vgt, dpf. Suppose to be better on fuel, there are about 20 being tested, time will tell if the running costs are more or less than the 871 with the def costs. I do know some operators in the far- outback of Australia will still want to use the 871 as you can carry a spare turbo and egr valve in your tool box, but not 200 gal of def, the outback is to remote and long travel distances without civilization to stock def- ad blue. I think it's just what they have come up with to combat the Mack / Volvo mp8 mp10 similar set up.
-
really it is possible to use EU-5 software on US engine and remove a half of emission stuff, but it wouldnt be legal
-
Thats what those US ECM-tuners are doing and charging big money.
DEF system is easy, you only need cheap emulator box and thats it. -
You are onto it Lenny !

Remoteness isn't that big of a deal. You can get def in 20,200,1000 litres you just need to plan it. I know of at lest two companies that just brought a few macks that go into the remotes parts of Australia. One does triple roadtrains from Brisbane to Darwin reports are he saves about $900 in fuel a trip compared to isx EGR. The other does roadtrain work for oil and gas companies in the desert in the middle of Australia very remote. We have def tanks on the trucks over here that are about 200 litres apprantly that's about enough for 3-4000 km truck also carry at lest 2000 litres of fuel if you set them up for running as roadtrains out in remote parts. You average only about .9 to 1.2 kms to the litre when doing this work. Not real sure how to convert all of this to us gal / mile sorry. After the release of the Mack mp10,Volvo D16 motors over here kenworth had to do something to keep selling truck to that market because between Mack and Volvo they were starting to clean up with sales of heavy haulage trucks. Kenworth only run one engine over here cummins no paccar engine because they sell Daf truck along side kenworth.

You guys down under better jump on those def only motors. The dpf is the worst part of the whole after treatment system. Best to ovoid them as long as you can.

Verry true planning is a big part , some times stashing 1000l ad blue under a tree in the hot australian sun so it crystallizes won't cut it. let alone when the local aborigines find it and drink it all!
its all about saving costs for the operator add blue isn't cheap either the systems are also expensive to fix.
Personal preference falls into it and what works for some will not work for others
