Hello all, I just recently joined this site but have been browsing it for a year or so. I tried searching for anyone else installing a bigger radio in a company truck without doing damage, maybe someone has an idea for me. Luckily ive managed to get nearly perfect SWR in the '10 cascadia i drive, with 3 different radios using factory wiring, with a pair of wilson 2000's...all radios barefoot, havent taken the step yet lol. My question is, the third and current radio i have is a galaxy dx949, as im sure all of you know, is a full size radio, but ive managed to get it installed in the stock overhead cb compatment, but without a mount of any sort. Anyone have a suggestion as to how I can secure it?? Greatly appreciated

3m and loc-tite make a awsum double sided tape that easily holds 15lbs or so. i use it in my truck alot, when i dont want to, or cant drill holes. walmart sells it and its relatively inexpencive.
Freightshaker613 Thanks this. -
how about the great big zip ties that are used in duct work they come about 24" or longer and about 3/8 wide they are real strong .

How did you wire your radio in your company truck? I'm getting the Galaxy DX98VHP and everybody tells me to wire to the battery. I can't do that. Is it possible to use the same factory terminals already wired without blowing the accessory fuse?

You can use the factory terminals if you use a standard 4 watt CB...

A stock 949 only pulls about the same power as a regular Cobra..

All great ideas thanks a lot guys! Only problem is, under the radio is the vented/holed plastic for the cb speaker, and the only thing i could zip tie it too is a small predrilled hole..so i might try soopercrew82's idea. id gladly install it under the cb compartment, or somewhere else, but like ive stated i have accomplished 1:2 swr on 20 and 40 using stock wiring and dont want to habe wires coming from everywhere. Thanks again for the great ideas everyone

EZmoney is right my 949 is simply a barefoot out of the box cb, 4 big bad bird watts. However, correct me if im wrong but the dx98vhp is a 10 meter right? Not knowing much about them i would assume they draw much more power, and in any install, power direct from the battery is always your best source, especially for a more powerful transiever.

Yep,The 98VHP is 200 watts before tune.....needs tons of power. It is the Monster of Galaxy radios and is a 10 meter.
The 949 can do maybe 30 watts after a tune up. -
Is that right eh!? Good to know...Over and over i ask myself after i make a compulsive purchase, why i didnt research stuff much more. Its like i forget about the internet.....Now im stuck with a "decent" radio that barely fits in my rig lol. Ah well at least its tuned perfect. Now I just need to find a way to strap the darn thing down!
