You really need to find a tax preparer that is familiar with the trucking industry. Since the ink is not yet dry on the new tax bill, no one really knows the exact tax rates. You can go to the IRS website and check the tax rates for the last year and get an idea of the basic rate, but a CPA or tax person familiar with this industry could do much more to find deductions.

don't forget that as over the road driver you are entitled to $ 56.00 dollars a day by the irs, no questions asked. And do yourself a huge favor...stay away from tax preparers that are not familiar with the industry. Check on the ooida webpage for reliable accountants.

no add the bathroom area the kitchen and dinning area the living room area. you can claim about 90 percent of the rooms in your house as company use. how. the kitchen is used to prepare meals store drinks and food just like a most 9-5 jobs have a small kitchen. the dining room is your break room area. your living room is your waiting room with tv for persons waiting to conduct bussisness with you, you have to have a restroom. plus your office and the spare bedroom well thats storage for extra office supplies and records that by law you have to keep and cant throw away. so recompute that 1200 square foot area with those areas included....thats why the irs lets Owner Ops claim 40 percent of house hold bills to the company. we even claim one out of every 4 packs of tol paper all paper towels window cleaner and many other house hold cleaners for the company putting them under both office use and truck use.....in the job you have to claim everything you can down to the t. including gas to get parts or go to meeting. right now we are going through an adit because in one year we grossed 3 million dollars and owned only 2000 in taxes in which when they looked over the books and did all the math we should have paid less and got a credit. our accountant knows his stuff and will not claim anything enless he knows it will clear an aduit.
