I am a oil/fluid hauler in Canada and am looking at one of these trucks as i like the 625 horse with 2250 torque. i haul super b (140,000lbs) which is why the specs of this truck sound good to me. 18 speed and such. i want to know if any of you have ran these big torque engines and if you've had luck with them. I've only heard of guys pulling vans with them, a little overkill i think lol but id like to know if they could handle heavy loads everyday all day. thanks in advance.

I know two guys that have similary years and model of a volvo that do heavy work like you. They both had Volvos before and said the truck and engine were fine but they both had injector o-ring issues and complained about parts cost. If you have a good dealer nearby and the engine has beened serviced/upgraded over the years it could be a good truck for you.

Ran an 07 with the D16... been nothing but problems for the owner of the truck. Constant electrical problems, ate through starters, blew out the EGR and two ECMs, had to replace injector cups and rods. If you'd like, I can pass his contact info on to you, and he can discuss in depth all the problems that truck gave him. Surprisingly, I had no problems with the turbo, which seems to be a recurring thing for a lot of people with the D16.

D16 parts are more expencive any D12 ore D13 engines.... I'd look for FH15 ore VN with ISX15 pre DPF

i personally wouldn't buy a volvo for where i work. they generally don't fair to well in the oilfields . but the sheer amount of horsepower and torque is the only thing that is making me think about it. if the engine is a bad choice than id go with a heavy spec western star or t800.

FH16 was designed as fat truck to tow heavy duty things. So they make FH16 750 HP and really there is work for this really good truck. 625 HP.... not 750.... I'd never buy... Why? becouse I'd choose 600HP ISX15. Less $$$ for any part!

Old Cat C16 would be a good choise, but Volvo do not sell trucks with CAT

I've never seen one of those fh16 trucks. so basically what you are telling me is anything but a volvo engine? is price of parts the only issue? cat is pretty expensive as well.
once again thanks for your input.

FH is like a VN, but cabover) LOL.. and some European features available, that rare in the USA, like ECAS, EBS, Tachgraph (European electronic logbook)....

FH and FM are European class 8 cabovers.
