I shower most of the time at the same 2-3 places. The workers clean with pride and actually take a interest in you. For this I leave a couple of dollars each time. One of the places (Kwik Fill in Kylertown, PA) is a fuel service fuel island too. I tip those attendents a couple bucks each time also considering they take care to fuel my truck, put the fuel caps on paper towels so not to scratch my tanks, and clean all the windows/mirrors. Some of the major chains I will not tip unless the shower is cleaned right.
Do you tip for showers?

Now day every one wants tips,,,,, where the hell is my tips????? they get the same tips i get!!!!!

Truck stops charge us 150% markup(at least), more often than not have rude employees, and waste my time standing in line for the privilege of
overpaying them, often with 2 employees standing behind the counter not helping customers. there are exceptions, but unfortunately this is true more often than not.
So, No, I do not tip truck stop employees at all. -
Tipping is designed to reward people for going above and beyond their normal job description. The person who sells you coffee in the morning does not deserve a tip but if the server adds an extra shot then yes they do. Like some of you have stated, if the person offers you a second towel, then leave a tip.

yeah.... i made sure i bring my own towels after i saw my shower and toilet was cleaned in :26 seconds, with the same towels u dry with, .... that aint right. -
I will tip for a shower with no hair anywhere, no dirt in the corners, behind the door, under the sink, plenty of soap, mirrors and toilet clean. Don't know if spraying Lysol on the floor, sink and toilet really helps much, but it makes me feel better. Anyway, I also throw down the second towel so I don't touch the bare floor.
Another thing I will do: if I see that I'm going to pass the attendant on the way out. I will hand them the tip in person so I can say: "Thank you for the clean shower. That means a lot out here on the road." (or a variation of that). The smiles and the *Thank you sir!* are nice and, who knows what's happening in their lives; it may have helped make it good day for them.dancecanyon, allniter, starsonwindow and 1 other person Thank this. -
As a manager from Pilot, I can assure you that a few kind words left with the Store Manager about your shower experience, the maintenance personnel, any staff member for that matter, would go a long ways!
Furthermore, Pilot/Flying J, offers drivers a chance to take care of those comments for you as well. Simply log onto the kiosk, vote for three items listed, post comments about your shower experience or the maintenance staff assisting you that day, and hit 'Save' and get back on the road. A confidential email is generated instantly showing the score you gave for the shower experience and lists all of your comments as well. This allows not only the General Manager to know how they are doing, but it also notifies the Regional Manager as well...
Many of our maintenance staff members work their "tails" off daily. Granted, they do receive an hourly wage for what they do. And it is known that tips are not an expectation for what they do. It is however, a nice gesture, to show them that their hard work is appreciated and acknowledged. Nonetheless, a simple word of encouragement, praise or thanks would go a long ways, if not farther, than a monetary tip of any amount, I'm certain of that one.thecleaninglady Thanks this. -
Ask yourself....
Or better yet......
Have you and each one of your employees randomly any day of the week....
Go into your showers and actually USE THEM like a paying customer would....
Then ask yourself, "What would I REALLY like about my shower experience I just had?"
Then come back and tell us what you experienced. Because we do it on a daily basis.
Flyin hook/pilots have small rooms. I feel actually claustrophobic in them.
The showers suck for shelving for putting shampoo, shaving and soap on.
If ONE THING in a truck stop should be made to be as HOME time feeling, the shower is one place I would NEVER skimp on.
And send that right on up the corporate chain too.
ETA:
Recently I was out in Twin Falls ID at a Pilot/Flyin J. There was a corporate dweeb there really going over the coffee island with a couple of ladies there. I was ready to give him a piece of my mind for the fact he was REALLY trashing THEM in front of customers.
You want to inspect and such, fine, inspect.
But do NOT do a damning review in front of customers. -
texasbbqbest Thanks this.

The whole purpose of paying double in a convenience store is it's suppose to be convenient. Pilot has lost that concept. When there are four cash registers, three of them shouldn't be closed and six people standing in line.
Grant it some stores are ran better than others. It starts with the manager.
Which Pilot do you run and I'll tell you if you are one of the better ones? They rate from great to horrible!
