I thought i would post my progress so far while waiting on the radio to get here.
Maybe some of you Pros can throw some input at me.
This is what i have done so far.
Ran power, It ended up taking about 21ft of 8 gauge from the battery to the overhead.
Soldered all ring terminals and connections and used heat shrink over that.
Used 50 amp fuse at battery.
Power comes out of the battery box,zip tied every 12 inches under the cab to existing air lines.
Came through the firewall at a spare rubber grommet then under the dash.
Removed A-pillar cover and all wire is hidden to the cubby hole.
Grounds,
Ran copper ground strap from antenna mount to the mirror bracket bolt to the door.
Inside door jam ran another ground strap from the door to the cab.
Third ground strap from under the cab to the frame.
New heavy duty antenna mount.
New Wilson 2000 i bought a few weeks ago.
Just waiting on the new coax, the radio and to set SWR again.
So far a very clean install with no wires visible at all.
Can anyone think of something i'm missing?![]()

Thanks! Yes,the radio would be nice!
I talked to the shop yesterday. It will be Tuesday when it ships...Argh!
At least it gives me plenty of time to run the new coax and the SWR set again.
70's here Saturday so i will finish that up. -
Well the big brown truck dropped it off today.
Had everything ready except to crimp the connections on the new power cord.
Powered her up,checked SWR it was 1.2.
First radio check was from about 9 miles away and said it was crystal clear and loud.
This was with me backed down my driveway,in the woods and in a hole and in the rain.
Checked power output with my cheap meter and was swinging 135 to 140 with a 35 watt dead key.
This may do a good job out in the open...it sounds clean through the talkback.BigByrd47119 Thanks this. -
EZ,I've been off for awhile, or I'd have been more timely. SWR won't change with a different radio as long as your operating frequency is the same -- assuming neither has been given a bad tuning job and is spurious. Also remember as you go that talkback only lets you know what the audio that you're applying to the modulator sounds like -- just like PA audio. If it's getting distorted as it gets turned into RF, you'll never know from the talkback. Pretty much the only thing it does is lets you confirm that the mic is working. And for folks who have noise toys installed, it lets them hear how awesome they sound to themselves

Thanks Handlebar,
I had changed the mount and stud out so i checked it again before putting 100 watts through it.
It did not change antenna length except the thickness of a lock washer......plus i added a thicker ground braid to the door so was just curious.
I always over check things...lol!
Still home for the weekend but i talked to a driver last night that was over 30 miles away.BigByrd47119 Thanks this. -
Sounds like you have a nice set up!
EZ Money Thanks this. -
Thanks Mike,I will see how it does on the road this week.
I think i will send my DX44 to your guy in a few weeks once the funds for toys gets back up...lol!
Been looking at a 667V Texas Star but that will stay on the wish list for now anyway..lol!
