you're sitting at a light, you look out the window and SLAM your brakes because you think you're rolling backwards when you're actually sitting still? just curious if it's my age or am I not alone?
Has this ever happened to you.

at least so far. it's either that or all the bumps and vibrations in the road throw your brain off kilt. and then when you stop, your brain has to catch up, because it thinks it's still moving. the only other explanation could be that we're all lunatics.
-
Then I must be the biggest lunatic of all.
This happens to me from time to time in my truck, but the worst example happened years ago.
When I was 16 my parents bought an old motor home that was made into a food concession stand to go around to fairs, carnivals and festivals with. I was driving it with my mom while on our way to another fair. We were sitting at a red light with a left turn lane and light. I was right next to that lane and a big truck was in the turning lane. When the left turn arrow went green and the big truck started moving I was freaked out. I started screaming for mom to help because I thought I was rolling backward. My mom had no idea why I was freaking out and thusly offered me no help. I threw the transmission in park because no matter how hard I stomped on the brake pedal we wouldn't stop rolling backwards. I was expecting to hear the grinding of gears as I threw it in park, but not hearing it I snapped back to reality and realized it had been an optical illusion. My mom will still give me a hard time about that to this day, and rightfully so. That was one of those moments that will make both of us laugh for the rest of our days.

ROFL!!!!! Yes, it's always happened to me when ANOTHER vehicle moved and made me think *I* was moving.
Sounds like a good one to get ribbed about, though!!!!

happening in a truckstop where you're parked, and let's say you're looking down doing paperwork. all of a sudden you look "up" and have a near heart attack... when all it is is another truck pulling out of his spot. freaky indeed.
-
and look around at where the hell you are, it takes a few seconds to get your bearings. you look left, you look right, you tilt your eye up in your head..thinking... hhmm... so i really am stopped after all.
-
Oh yes big time. At my company we slip seat (thats a topic for another thread) and there is one truck in particular that if you don't have both feet on the brake you will start rolling. I haven't driven that truck in awhile, I hope it was fixed. But yeah I get that feeling alot.

it's hard enough at times getting used to one truck, let alone 200 !!
