One of the trucks I have is a 08 freightliner Columbia with a Detroit in it. I have had nothing but problems out of the regen on this truck. It has been to freightliner three times and Detroit two times. We have spent thousands of dollars trying to get the issue fixed and it still isn't fixed. Both shops have always said that it had a wiring issue of some sort. The truck still won't regen on its own or do a manual regen. I have to get it forced regened every 20,000-30,000 miles. I usually get it done when I get the truck serviced. I had to get a mobile mechanic out night before last in Oklahoma because they truck shut off and wouldn't stay running. Is there something I can do to fix this issue or is there something I can buy to get this truck to do a forced regen when the drivers need it to be done?

Sometimes you can drop the pipe off the bottom of the muffler and use a long air blower to blow the soot out of the bottom screen. All the codes have to be cleared afterward and reset. If you are making 30,000 miles the regen is likley working when you are driving at highway speeds.

The truck runs highway speeds 99% of the time. We don't use too many back roads. Our trucks are leased on to a company that just does terminal to terminal drop and hook. The terminals are usually within a mile off the interstate. The truck also runs teams so it doesn't sit much. When it did it this week they ran all the way from Nashville to weatherford OK before it had a problem. The regen light doesn't come on. The check engine light comes on then eventually it will shut itself down. The regen light might flash on a few times but doesn't stay on. So we can't do a manual regen. Detroit said we can only do a manual if the light is on. So I have to get it forced and it fixes it. The truck has had zero issues other than this.

I have been retired for a while so am a bit rusty but have them look for codes indicating uneven back pressure. Once that code has been set it can only be cleared by a cummins authorized program. Lost of mechanics will have this but not all. Sometimes the converter needs to be taken out and baked but usually on road trucks just blowing out the bottom screen and resetting codes will take care of it.
