OK..now you say that you really enjoy doing things with your wife, kids, and family. But you're just tired of the daily grind and don't see any tangible results from the work at the office....so lets start off with this...IF and THAT IS IF you get a company to hire you with the DWI's it WILL not be a company that will let you be at home every night, it will more than likely be a company that will expect you to be out for around 10 to 14 days with a day or 2 at home ..then off again for another 2 weeks or so. THAT IS the reality of just getting started no getting around it, especially with your past. So here it is....if you get a trucking job you are going to loose 99% of the time that you say is so important to you and your family..YOU won't be HOME. So you have a choice either give up your family time or go and chase "YOUR" dream. This conversation is beginning to smell really bad dude....it seems to me that you want some one to justify a career choice for you. You say that you love your family life and all but still insist on trying to do something that will most definitely take you away from them for extended periods of time....You have been given the same advice over and over yet you continue to think that the advice isn't true or that you can "beat" the system.....I hate to call someone a "troll" ...but if the shoe fits......

GD, I feel for you. I understand your frustrations with your current job and the allure the call of the road has for you. I am also thinking about making the switch to driving a truck. I started a thread on here as well to get advice from others, and they gave me a lot of information to think about. If you want to check it out, here's the link http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ers/196843-hello-let-me-introduce-myself.html
I still might make the switch, but I am not going to jump into this blindly either. What I really need to is seek God's will and not my own. God has you where you are for a reason and he has me here for a reason. When it is time for the change, God will make it happen.gdsimmons Thanks this. -

OK , GD...I just can't understand, after all the comments you made about loving to spend quality time with the wife and kids..I see this as a no-brainer for you, being that you have a great paying job that gives you the time to spend with your family. It just seems awfully self-centered and selfish to me that a man so blessed would even consider risking all that for a job as demanding and stressful as trucking. But as you stated, you haven't made a decision yet. If you were 20 years younger with no DWI's it would be completely feasible and quite possibly a good career choice...but we've already been down that road.....I'll leave you alone in your quest...and wish you much success in the future. I do want you to know that my advice is just as close as a pm message....I may not always tell you what you want to hear..But I'll always give you what I think to be good advice...TONY

If physical productivity is what you NEED, and I know exactly what you mean, try picking up a hobby. Model building can be challanging and very rewarding at the same time, for example.
Not physical enough? Hit the gym! Work you butt off and reep the rewards!
Just some extra thoughts that would allow you to keep your current, really good job, while giving you more fullfillment.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -

Finishing that degree might be a bit harder than you are expecting. My wife needed about 7 classes to finish her engineering degree but she was out of school too long so most of her credits would not transfer anywhere and she basically had to start over. It's not like she's used calculus or physics enough to remember it anyway. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

A lot of realistic advice here. You sound like a smart and driven guy. Have you ever thought of using your skills to start a small business? Start it as part time out of the house while you keep the full time job. Also, if you haven't already, you might want to check out the books "Quitter" by Jon Acuff and "48 Days to the Work You Love" by Dan Miller. I've heard Dave Ramsey recommend them.
Is it possible to have the DWI's expunged from your record??
