Thanks for the reply. I'll see if I can get in touch with Mr Nichols.

I saw one on a dealer's web site, I can't remember who, for $3200 + exchange. Complete except for the cam. Is this the way yours came?
-
Yes it is.........

Just call peterbilt and say your cousin works at kenworth and ask to get a discount, it works. And try with all the dealers around your area and see who gives you the best price. And dont worry they don't call other dealers to verify. Just have part # or the engine serial # for other dealers that are not your truck brand.

That's funny right there....

my reman head was 2600 from cat dealer i think ur gettin hosed and fed bs, id call over the place even other states until u find someone who isnt trying to bend u over.
silver dollar Thanks this. -
CAT does have a new offering, but it is very misleading. The part number is good except non of the part guys will tell you it also states that the head is "new if available or reman". The problem with this is many of the heads have been surfaced milled causing the cam gear to drop closer to the front gear assembly. Sometimes this isn't a problem, but have seen it cause the timing to be one tooth off no matter what is done. Another issue is who ever CAT has doing the cast welding doesn't always take the time and care to do it correctly.
silver dollar Thanks this. -
there is a product called steel seal. supposed to repair for life cracked heads, though I know nothing about it.
