I got on the bus to Syracuse NY terminal on monday and arrived in Syracuse and called the number I was given and a cab picked me up and took me to the hotel which is a Quality Inn.The rooms werent bad my only real complaint was they don't have laundry facilities on site (the terminal does).First day of orientation was drug test(urine only) physical then road test. filled out paperwork and had pizza for lunch. Individualy reviewed our application and watched basic hazmat videos. Second day covered company policies and some safety. Third day drug test results were back so we got driver codes meaning we are hired. out of 16 people there only 5 or 6 were assigned Mentors,I was one of those.I was given his name truck number and a bus ticket home for the weekend.I was told my mentor will call me sometime sat,sun or mon to let me know when he will be picking me up.I feel that Swift was a good choice for my first driving job.if I can answer any questions I will with what knowledge I have gained about the company so for.

good luck. don't be bashfull about asking your mentor about anything you need to know. have him show you everything and then do it yourself to make sure you do it rite. bring alot of patience and a good attitude. trucks r small with 2 strangers sharing the small space. if you have any issues with your mentor that can't be worked out, call your driver developement manager. good luck,be safe, and have fun.

So this was orientation you just started? It almost sounded like you were beginning training with Swift.
Either way, good luck. Keep us posted on your experience. I just started training with Swift in Idaho this past week so I'm interested to hear about your experience with Swift as you are a few weeks ahead of me if you are in orientation. -
I have My class A CDL but no experience. I will try to post as often as I can so that new and prospective drivers will have an idea how things work with this company. DocWatson feel free to jump on this thread when you can and let us know how you are doing and good Luck to you.

well right now i am with cr england but come next week i am tellin them to stick it where the sun dose not shine and i am going with swift all i can hope for is that they are much better then cr england i just want to know if swift will let you bring home your truck on home time
Marky84 Thanks this. -
truck is assigned so you take it home on your home time and they are way better than cr england i never had any major problems when i was there. There were some little things that agitated me like looking for a trailer and driving back and forth across town trying to find one just to pick up a load next door to the terminal and t-call it. Wasted all day on that got paid for 2 miles but when i sent a qualcomm message about how much bs it was they backed me with a 3200 mile load. That was the only time i ever really got pissed when i worked there my student wasn't amused he quit the next day. But i left on good terms and would definitely go back with them my suggestion to you is to get on the flatbed fleet.cowboyterror Thanks this.

richsoucie is correct you take your truck home they do prefer you have a place to park for the truck and trailer. That way when home time ends you are ready to get a load.
