I recently finished school and recieved my cdl. I also have tanker and hazmat endorcements, along with my twic card. Im from the houston area with the bus system as my only means of transportation. I recently went to arnold transportation but was sent home due to a misd I got little over three yrs ago. They orignally told me the misd wouldnt matter because it was over three yrs old. There reason for sending me home was because I was aressted for a felony which got dropped down to a misd. Its my only conviction of anything and I got a clean driving record.

Arnold is just one company. Keep putting in applications and be straight forward on the application about the misd. Keep in mind you can't go to Canada. Check Careerbuilder website for Houston area. Many compannies , if they need drivers, will waive the experience required rule. Here are a few tanker companies:

    Foodliner ( 3 tanker divsions)
    trans-system (tanker/reefer/flatbed)
    Miller Transporters
    Tankstar
    Quality Distribution
    Superior-Carriers
    Bulkmatic
    Groendyke

Did you tell'em it was a felony, knocked down to misdemeanor ? That sounded like a insurance company decision..... keep searching

Good point. Keep the application process going; many companies won't hire you if you've been out of CDL school for 30-60 days.

Try USA Truck or PAM Transport. Both hire out of Houston area. USA may be a little easier on the record than PAM. If those don't work then try Schneider or Werner. Both have yards in the Houston area.

i'm curious as to the nature of the felony charge turned misdemeanor...maybe that has something to do with it. A lot of stuff gets plead down if it's a first offense and to make the courts run quickly...changes the way the court looks at it but might not change the way an employer looks at it.

that's what i want to know! was it a theft charge as a felony? and then pled down to drop the charge in a guilty plea for another charge you were charge with at the same time as a felony. the way cops do it. almost all cops file atleast 2 charges on every arrest. that so they can get a guaranteed conviction on one of them. it's always the big charge that gets dropped. how ever. a conviction record and an arrest record are 2 different records. like dac and mvr records.

who knows. maybe the op should have done some calling around before going to school. and then decide if trucking is the best choice for them as a career.
