Especially with winter coming on. That's the off season. Just check through the site for warnings about bad companies and avoid them. You don't want your first year to suck for no other reason than you didn't hear about how bad a company was before they hooked you into working for them.

Maverick & Averitt both good companies.
As another poster wrote; food service companies such as US Food Service, the grocery warehouse in Goodlettsville(Associated Grocers) or any other grocery warehouse. Sadler in Nashville hauls mail.

I'm from West Tennessee and I applied with both Averitt and Maverick back in September when I started trucking school. Played a lot of phone tag with recruiters, but basically I applied and let them know I would graduate at the end of October. Graduation came and went, I finished my class and had good recommendations from my instructor. Now after last weeks interview, Averitt tells me that they have no female trainers and Maverick told me that they are not taking any out of state trainees until after Thanksgiving. So even though I researched and applied early it didn't help me.
Still no job, no money, no nada.
What's your status now, did you find a good company yet? -
Sadie, doesn't your school have any placement service? Have you talked to them?
-
They told us to apply to a lot of places and show them the pre-hires. But, there really weren't any placement opportunities so to speak. I'll find something eventually.

Ever think about hauling fuel? I was fresh out of school and got on with Gemini/Loves and have been with them for sixteen months now. My point is that if you look hard and don't give up that there are local jobs out there that will hire you as a new driver. Yes it's harder to get a local gig being fresh out of school but it can be done.
