When I got my CDL, the age range of students went from 21 to 70. If I can give you any advice, if you still wish to drive a truck. Don't miss out on being with your children if you don't have to. You have plenty of life left to live. You can always go into driving later. Wait till they are grown. Later on it will be much easier. It is true that a large number of us are divorced, and for good reason. You can't imagine all the frustrations your wife would have with you being gone, and missing out on things your kids are doing is absolutely brutal.
i can't tell you how many times I have felt badly for not being there for my current wife and my kids and hers. I love operating this big machine, and so many other things about trucking, but at the end of the day, I miss them to much. I don't regret my career choice, but I am moving into a local driving job in a few months. I will miss being out here though.
If you ever do give trucking a try, please don't rush into it. You seem to be a reasonable man, and I'm sure you would think it through and make the best decision at the right time for you. Just saying, your kids are only going to be kids for so long.
best wishes,
Rob
