I would agree that Lucas is so old school when it comes to today's engine oils. The only disagreement I would have with your comments is "similar additives like Lucas". Several folks have sent virgin samples of Lucas into the oil labs and had it analyzed. Lucas has NO additives. It is purely no more than a straight 50w base oil at best.
Check out the www.bobistheoilguy.com forums and see where folks have done lab samples on Lucas. They have the lab reports posted right there.rollin coal Thanks this. -
Really? 30,000 big ones? I just bought (in August) a complete rebuilt Detroit Series 60 12.7 500 hp crate engine from DD and it cost me just under $18,000 after the core.

Lucas oil products are relatively new on this side of the Big Pond. We have been using it in our vehicles for about two years now and have not had any problems. I think because it is essentially a preventative product and the protection it gives can be very difficult to see or quantify at times. Complacency can set in, and then you begin to wonder what benfit an I getting from using this product.
What really sold me on the Oil Stabiliser, was where we had a ZF 16 speed transmission with a porus casing which ingested a few gallons of water. The guy who reconditioned the transmission couldn't understand how little damage there was internally,considering that the water literally flowed out of it. I think the protection that the Lucas Oil Stabiliser gave the internals of the transmission, saved us thousands in this instance. Yes, it cost us around $2,000 to put the truck back on the road, but this was a long way down from the projected $8,000 figure initally associated with a porus casing repair.
I personally like the products Lucas sell, but I think you have to be careful about the amount of Oil Stabiliser you use as too much just thickens up the engine oil too much. A half gallon per oil change is plenty....in my humble opinion.
We also run both Mercedes CDI and BMW diesel cars with EGR, common rail and DPF systems and use Lucas fully synthetic Low SAPS oil in them. Great oil, no problems, and several engines now gone over 400,000km wihout a head or a pan removed so far, despite being driven by formula one drivers who feel that anything less than 100mph is slow. These cars run 25,000~35,000kms between oil changes. When we periodically add some Lucas fuel additive to the diesel tank, you can feel an immediate improvement to the performance of these cars. Even my wife regularly comments about the car having been serviced/tuned when we throw a drop of Lucas into the tank.
I think Lucas is great stuff and will continue using it in all of our fleet.... but too much is as bad as none at all....but then again, that is just my opinion. -
I didnt explain myself correctly, what I meant to say was, todays motors oils viscosity feels like if it had lucas in it already, which I know it doesnt.

Lucky you. Yes, I have a receipt to back up my claim. Have you ever wondered how much a brand new Cummins ISX costs? Call them...it'll shock your socks off. But hey, you can get a short block, new head and related whatevers for, yes, roughly 30,000.

Which if your oil was breaking down would be almost perfect. Would it not.
