Well there's a reason it's called New Prime. There is also a reason that New Prime can't have company drivers...thus the reason they bought ROCOR and TRL for the ability to do that. Prime hasn't changed much over the years except the fact they don't run 98mph down the road. They've had the reputation a very long time. Too bad you hadn't heard before hand.
Prime, never been insulted by employer before.

We got bunches 'o company drivers... has nothing to do with the company acquisitions.
-
New prime doesn't. They are employed by rtc.

RTC is a wholly owned subsidiary. Just keeps the company driver money on separate books.Last edited: Jan 13, 2013

You are correct it is. Ever wonder why it is set up as such?
-
Everyone wants to attribute it to some kind of dark conspiracy when it's probably to keep the IRS happy about the accounting differences between 1099 independent contractors and W2 employees - or some such nonsense. Using existing business entities as a catchall to do this just saves administrative fees.

I am not trying to insult you but you are uninformed. The reason it is called New Prime is because the company got into hot water with the DOT who made it clear that they could not have company drivers. If it were as simple as your theory, then every larger carrier would be doing the same thing. They are not. My uncle was the head of operations during the formation of New Prime so if you work there and are happy, then good for you. But before you chime in as if you know, please arm yourself with all the facts. I'm done with this discussion now so have a great day.

They have used the legal name of New Prime since emerging from chapter 11 in 1988.

signed a lease with a weekly payment of $863 a week. you desserved to fail if you were that stupid. and yeah i said stupid. i have been in this business 40 yrs as both co drvr and o/o and never had a tractor payment higher than 1800 a month. first of all, never sign a weekly lease with any company. that means you are making 13 monthly payments, not 12. and most importantly don't get blinded by shiny trucks going fast down the road . i have no sympathy for drivers that sign contracts with carriers like prime. anyone in the business for any amount of time learns about their kind of trucking and all the other companies like them. for the life of me i can't figure out why you signed on with them. you're wife is right for not driving. if your solo driving job is not supporting your family then you need a a new job. sorry to call you stupid but i just wish more drivers would stay away from companies like prime. i hope by now things worked out and got better.
