I am an ex-Hostess driver from L.A., had a nightly run to Arroyo Grande. It's not easy out here, still looking. Just want to know if you have had any luck. I am 58 with 39 years driving, mostly in the food industry (20 at Hostess). Just need some advice and ideas. Best of luck to you....

Sorry about your job loss but, 2 million safe miles you shouldn't have a problem getting a "good" driving job. If Frito-Lay has a plant near you, you might try them. I worked 12 years with them before they closed our plant and was making $1600.00 a week with them in 2002 when it closed. I could have relocated to another plant out of state, but choose not to. They were also a very good company to work for, treated me like a family member, paid hotels and meals, but mostly hand touch freight. Back then 8 cents a case and roughly 800 cases an hour unload rate, made it worth the effort while unloading. Walmart might be good for you, if they have a DC in your area. They like to hire seasoned drivers and have hired many retired Teamsters. I am in the hiring process currently there and they are some of the friendliest people I have ever met. They remind me a lot of Frito-Lay. If those two options don't work for you, try applying with every single LTL company in your area. I started my career in LTL and wouldn't be much different than what you are used to doing. Enjoy some time off and don't "settle" for any job. It might take you a few months to get a premium driving job, but with your experience, you will get one. Good Luck!
