My fleet manager got mad at me today saying that I skipped out on two loads. I am a daycab driver driving for Werner on the Net Ops account, I start my night around 5pm and when I got in my truck, my fleet manager wanted to talk to me. I called him and he reamed me a new one. He told me that I skipped out on two loads. I tried to explain that when I get my first load message, I message to my dispatcher about how many loads I have that night. That certain night, he said I had 3. So I assumed that after my third load, I was done and I went home. To be honest, I should have called and asked, but I didn't, so I am not putting all blame on my dispatcher. But he had ample opportunity to message me on my qualcomm or call me. It took me about 25-30 minutes to get back to the terminal, and I was in the terminal for about an hour, giving more than enough time to call me. I would like some advice about this, what are my options, and how should I talk to my fleet manager. I don't want to lose my position, but I am open to being on another account if this isn't resolved.
Advice on how to speak to my Fleet Manager

How do you speak with another who can't hear you? If your fleet manager refuses to listen to you, what other options in regards to communication is there? Yes, you could of called and yes, you could have been told there was more to do by dispatch, why didn't dispatch say anything before you left? Did they not know you were leaving? perhaps take it with a grain of salt and learn from it. move on if you deem so.
I'm not with werner however, these days attitude is common most every time I call in with my company, I think they're programmed to do it, I still call tho if I think it's needed, the lack of communication, not giving correct information or leaving it out intentionally is ridiculous. I would speaK with dispatch and ask them why you weren't sent a message / made aware of, before you left. -
Just because he reamed you does not necessarily mean you should be looking for another job because "its not resolved" If you have Qualcom in your truck don't you communicate after each load? Maybe he now realizes that he (or night dispatch) should have sent you a message or called just like you realize that maybe you could have called also. I would not sweat it too much. Was your third load towards the end of your shift where you would not have time to do the other two or were you in like your 5th or 6th hour? Although I would put the majority of the blame on dispatch from what you posted, it takes at least two to communicate.

Unless they fired you or fined you for some reason, it's water under the bridge. Tomorrow is another day.

Unless they sent you another load on the qualcomm, it never happened. Personally a dispatcher gets cross with me and I'll go and have a personal chat with them. If it's not on the qualcomm srew em.

what have been the expectations of the job up to this point? Did you check in before heading home, or did you just leave when you did x number of loads? if this was a change from the norm that is an important piece of the puzzle. either way i would suggest speaking with your dispatcher and making clear expectations to ensure nothing like that happens again.

Look. Its Werner. Tell him they arent paying you enough to kiss his ###, and that IF he had done his job you would have been told about the other 2 loads that night, but since they told you you only had 3 loads and then you did 3 loads, that you arent a mind reader and cant be expected to do the job of a disatcher when you arent even paid enough to do the job of a driver. If hes got a problem with that tell him there are plenty of other, much better companies you could be driving for. (And there are)

Yea that's always the best approach, tick em off and alienate before even trying to work it out.Reroll, Ghost Ryder and Meltom Thank this.

This...
Id let it go
If it happens again tell him to print the dispatch off of the qualcomm system.
If it ain't on my qualcomm it never happened! -
you did the loads you were assigned right??? man don't let your fleet mgr keep pulling the punk card out on you... i'm not saying to scream and curse and get ugly but stand your ground... fleet mgr might not like it but will think twice about the punk card in the future... works for me
