Hello. I am going to lease a truck. I am new to this forum but I have tried to be as active as I can. I have over 20 years behind the wheel, $15,000 in the bank and 0 years experience driving in the last five years. I have held a Class A since 1982. I am looking for long haul loads. I look forward to 8 weeks out and 4 days back. This post is not a joke, nor am I looking for nay-Sayers. My driving record is impeccable as well as my background. Monday I will apply for my passport, Tuesday I will take my Hazmat Test, Wednesday I will apply for my TWIC Card.
I am looking for solid, sound advice. I find it hard to believe that no professional driver can make a living, leasing a truck in 2013. Help me out and one day, I may just do the same for you.
I am Going To Lease A Truck. Tell me Who To Go With.

Well I can't tell you who, because leases by nature are ripoffs, my advice is make sure the truck you pick stays yours, some will try to swap out on you. Get that in writing and make sure there is no balloon payment at the end. Also, don't let them tell you that you can only use their shop, sure sign of a rip off.

Truckings major appeal to me is O/O, I wont lie. But being from a family of O/O's and after reading this forum I dont know if its possible anymore to do it and make anything.

When you say lease a truck do you mean thru a company or do you plan on leasing from someone like lone mountain truck lease? If you go company I have heard of Risinger Brothers as a good company to lease with. If you do something like lone mountain it all depends on what you like to pull. But with 0 years of driving in last 5 years it might be little difficult but not impossible. If you know someone with own authority that might be a good place to look into. I hope this gives some help.

I've wanted to own my own also. for the last 25 yrs.

If you have $15k why not use $5k of it on a down payment on a decent used truck and trailer? Then sign on to a company or better yet get your own authority and work for yourself. "Lease" is a glorified company driver who covers all the company's truck expenses. It's a fool's proposition. On second thought you might be trolling.

I have NEVER done a lease. I have my own authority and its the only way to go. YOU have ZERO experience and it sounds like THINK your gonna make BIG bucks soon as you turn the key. Let me tell you my friend, your gonna get a really quick wake up call. It takes experience to know what your doing and it doesnt happen over night. The only advice I will give you is, USE the SEARCH button on top. There are MANY MANY threads on this. The Up's and Down's. I suggest you try there first. Goodluck on your new adventure.

my 6th grade teacher suggested every girl in the class should work in the kitchen, and every boy in class who was "not so smart" should consider a career in truck driving. i think he was talking about you. years old, years trucking experience, and you dont have enough sense by now to know that there are very few lease purchase programs that are not completely crooked? youve got a lot of homework to do if you are serious, and asking faceless strangers on a site like this is just wasting time. need to talk face to face, or at least by phone, to 10 different CURRENT lease purchase drivers in every company you are considering. otherwise my teacher was certainly right about you.
