Every Mercer contractor that I contacted pays on a 1099.
Seems iffy to me as well, but I'll be getting paid 30% of line haul. I'm guessing I'll come out to 25% after taxes and everything is paid.
Is this weird?

1099 sucks! You will be paying more than 5% of your wages in taxes.
And on top of taking care of your own taxes you have no insurance or benefits.
Been there, done that and ended up paying the IRS for several years....NOT worth it!
That 30% needs to be about 100k a year before i would even consider it. -
Wait 'til you try and collect Social Security after having been paid on a 1099.........
-
If we still have it by then he won't get squat!
-
Exactly.... but of course it will be someone else's fault
It could also effect you if you become permanently disabled but have no social security wages reported......That would also be someone else's fault.EZ Money Thanks this. -
i played the 1099 game and screw that with a big crooked stick $5000 later i learned it aint worth it
by the way crst is bottom of the barrel working as a driver for a guy that leases from crst.......that crap under the barrel. i just cant see u making out in anyway good out of this deal but thats my honest opinion my advice stay away from craigslist good jobs are few far and hard to find on there -
Amen to that! Craigslist is full of 1099 jobs. Most pay about 14 bucks an hour....Geeze! You would come out better flipping burgers and getting paid as a W-2 employee!
-
Thanks guys I think I leave this one alone
-
Very wise decision! There are plenty of places that pay decent and have great benefits.
Keep looking it will turn up!dpwelsher Thanks this. -
if you are getting paid 1099 make sure you put money away for taxes because your company is not doing it for you. just cause you don't get it taken out before you get your check you still have to pay it. or your be like the other who complain that they owed 5-10k at the end of the year and couldn't pay it. yes pay roll deduction is nice but if you know that you are handling your own taxes make sure that you are prepared for it if you are getting paid 1099 dont just assume that all the money in your check is yours to spend as you please. w2 is nice and has its benefits but your still paying your own taxes ether way. you will pay both the employee and employer share of S/S and may want to get workman's comp on yourself if you desire.
