Yeah, you have to take the simm class your 1st year, 2nd, and I think its every 3-5 years therefor after. I thought it was an interesting Idea with the 13.7 antenna but being from the northwest we haul alot of 14' trailers so that wont solve that problem on this side of the country. I also found a lot of their "how to drive in winter weather" was incorrect and simpler things could have been done to avoid being stuck in the first place. But who am I, I just drive for them mostly in great white north.
The start of my first year with Swift.

Here I sit on Memphis at the terminal. I'm done with my 34 at 2200 and hope to have a load so I can leave.
If you are stuck here, try to the food from Goodies Subs. They make sandwiches and have Chinese food. I had General Tso's Chicken. It was really tasty and a lot of it. The menu's are in the Driver Lounge. That is the only place I ordered food from.
I got to the showers early this morning but, not early enough. They were cleaning the restroom. When they got done I was kind of excited that I was going to get a shower in a clean shower. My expectations were way too high. Even in Iraq and Afghanistan they squeegee the water off the floor so no one falls. Not here. There was water all over the floor along with hair, toothpaste, and other things I didn't recognize. I think I would have been better off to wait until the afternoon.
The laundry room was the same. Still one washer half full of stinking water. The same one that was there two days ago. Another washer broke down along with two dryers that were down.
Come on Swift, get it together. These terminals are our homes away from home. Raise the standards a bit...
It's a beautiful day here today. The sun is out and it's warm. Makes me wish I had a lawn chair. I might expose these fine white legs to some sunshine..DocWatson Thanks this. -
Many of you are wondering how much money your are going to make when you go solo. Below is a listing of what my gross checks have been or are going to be since I went solo on January 1.
My first paycheck that was only for miles was on Jan. 15. I drove 2471 miles = $634.25
My next check on Jan. 22 will be for 2320 miles = $595
Those are the only two checks that don't have student pay on them. The first week I actually had an additional 804 miles but it was put on another check. They have started to take out the money for my training.
Any questions...just ask.DocWatson, Bigdubber, oncnavy96 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ralph is like so many others on the road with the cb to hide behind or the computer screen here. Alright first off I don't care how long some one has been a trucker, we ALL started off as rookies once. You don't think when you started that other drivers weren't making comments about your lack of skill? We all learn different things at different rates and THAT don't matter what it says on the truck door. That kind of combative attitude is why the driver side of the industry has suffered.

Sheriff, ever have trouble staying awake while on the road?
Is that $ gross? -
I just grossed $1488 on last check, but ive also had checks for less than $25! It all depends on when the loads deliver and if you get the miles. $1488 was my largest check yet, had a $1050 check a few months ago, but average for me is $600-$800 gross 95% of the time unless I had hometime that week.
