TThe way I seeit is I am getting a chance to get inti the trucking field. I already know im not going to get the best runs and a lot of home time. I plan on just accepting what I get to start with and move up from there

I look at at it like this. I have been in land surveying most of my adult life. The worst work I have ever done, was doing specialized DOT studies for new work on state roads in Florida. I supervised crews that had to go into the middle of the traffic lanes, on foot, to collect surveying data. I have also done a lot of years doing rural surveying work, than meant measuring the entire government section to accurately measure the parcel I was doing. Want to know how many times I have been waist deep in a swamp and had to freaking whack an alligator between the eyes because he was too close. Or been in the middle of the road set up to gather data and look in the eyes of a driver on a cell phone coming straight at me? I spent the late 1980s working, doing surveying in a phosphate mine, around super large equipment everyday, who's drivers usually could not see the ground workers and you had to have eyes in the back of your head. The worst was the DOT planning work. I figure God gives us all so many close calls and I am convinced I used all mine up. I have literally closed my eyes, expecting to be run down, and then be surprised I was missed. People ask me about the snakes and alligators doing the work I do, and I always tell, them I would deal with a thousand of that instead of dealing with working in the traffic doing the DOT studies. I've never seen a snake or alligator i could not kill with a machete or a gun.

I guess my pint is hard times, and bad jobs are relative. After years of no surveying work I found a surveying job, where the owner wanted to pay me 15 bucks an hour, for what I was making 25 an hour to do in 2006. And he was a drunk and crazy. I lasted 3 months, and tried hard. Not all jobs are good jobs, and some jobs that seem to be bad, can be a gateway. That is exactly how I am looking like my chance in trucking.

I've also been stung by things like yellow jackets, wasps and hornets in the neighborhood of hundreds of time over the years doing surveying work. Then I see guys on here whining because they have trouble getting home. Heh, I once killed a wild hog, that honestly did have a broken front leg because it was being dogged by dogs, but charged me anyways, and I killed it with a short handled 3 pound hammer with a quick blow between the eyes. And I see guys on here that think jobs should be easy. Trucking looks easy to me.
Honestly though, I am 52. I am not the Surveyor Commando I was 20 years ago. But still. Who the hell ever told anyone life was easy. I may fail in trucking, and I amy not, but the chance to get into it to me is worth a lot, and even if I fail, (drug testing will not be one, and written testing will not be one, I am worrying about actual driving, because I have never driven a semi) will be my biggest concerns. No one ever told me stuff was going to be easy, and I dont expect it. I figure I have about a 60% chance of passing. I am planning on trying harder than I have in my life. Because the check I got before Christmas for 2 weeks was all of 178 bucks. I want to have good work. I want to work in something that is going to be productive. I am willing to be a company man, and do what it takes for that company to make money, because, that is the only way I will make any money. And if I can get on and pay my dues, then I hope to do better. I figure hard work, is all I can expect. Never had it from any other job I did.
