RDTC starting school January 28th

May look like a decent size from satellite til you get there and see how small it is. I've never been and go to TX maybe once a year. Compare that with Gary or Marshfield and you'll see the diff

 

Northtown -- Yeah, we'll post more when the class starts. When I was researching schools, I came across posts on this board from RDTC students and also drivers who were in the "phase 2" where they were riding with a trainer, and those were extremely helpful. It's been a few months since anyone has posted what going through the school is like, so we're planning on posting status during our school period to have a recent description on the forum.

To those who are starting class (or in class) tomorrow the 21st, I will be thinking about you. It's going to be a "bit nippy" this coming week, to put it (very) mildly. STAY WARM and protect exposed flesh.

 

Im in school now and it is going to be very cold tomorrow lol, especially in the yard(pre-trips,Hooking up & backing)

 

Not trying to deviate from the thread but someone was commenting on the TX terminal.The Grand Prairie, TX (Dallas) terminal is small but is better than what we had. It was a Bright Leasing facility. As you come in gate bobtail parking is to the left. The rest is tractor/trailer parking. Plans are to enlarge it down the line. Has office for terminal manager, 2 FM/planners for Tx regional, desks for 2 orientation instructors and a classroom. Drivers room is small with a TV, small table, scanner station and two showers. Currently no shop but does have 3 or 4 bays and shop area. Shop hopefully will be coming in a year or so. Also potential for a truck wash and fuel island. The tennis court belongs to the apartment complex across the street. At least we have gained a scanner, 2 showers and toliets that don't freeze up if the weather takes a cold turn.

 

Honestly, having been there, I'm happy with a safe haven in the area with a secure parking place and free shower.

 

I would of loved to park there, when I was in the area. Its far more safe to park at a Roehl terminal with secure facilities, but as I was going to collect layover pay over the New Years Holiday, I was forced to go park @ a dirty Pilot truck stop, and deal with people knocking on the door asking to polish my rims,and wanting to bum ciggs.......What was that "Corner stone Value" again????

i am from Brighton, MI about an hour north of Detroit. I see your from GR. I have relatives around the Spring Lake area. Just west of you.
Good luck, safe driving and looking forward to picking your brain about the training. I have a family obligation in Feb. or else I'd be right there with you guys in class.
