Experience with YRC ( includes YRC, New Penn, USF Reddaway and Holland

I don't like the casual aspect, but everyone has to start at the same place once upon a time... Fuel gig pays 20.50 an hour, and no OT. 5, 12 hour shifts.

 

The 'casual aspect' isn't as tough if you don't have to be home alot.

 

I don't have a wife or children... Live with the gf, but she understands that better to get through the bs now, before the possibility of marriage and kids... I really would rather haul fuel, but the lack of OT to carry hazmat loads while requiring 12 hour shifts is a slap in the face IMO. I understand if I don't take it, someone else will, just seems like a low hourly wage to me for the product hauled.

 

Yes, I would have guessed hauling fuel would pay more.

 

Haven't heard from either, so not getting my hopes up yet. Only interviews thus far. The fuel gig will always be around/stable IMO, and has the option of being an O/O someday after being a company driver long enough.

 

I've thought about putting in a few years, then trying to hire on with a cryo company, but not sure. I think going to ABF or a similar company will be a better career move for me. More bs in the beginning, but better in the long run.

 

If you can handle some thin times of the year YRC or ABF will be a good choice for you. Depending on where your looking at hiring in it could take a few years before you will have to worry about being laid off and or working steady but if you can hang on you will quickly see why we have less than 1% turnover rate here. That's truly unheard of in the trucking industry.

 

@ Dieselgeek. How close are you to the twin cities?
