so if you were on here reading yesterday, you may know i was looking at prime. i received this letter via email and after looking up what it was, i am a little disappointed. oh well. i have also been looking at swift cuz they have a training facility near my home and a terminal, millington and memphis tn. i also looked into driver solutions which paired me with usatruck. i have spent over a year researching and thinking and debating with myself. i finally make a decision and road block.

Nothing wrong with Swift....
-
yeah but i heard their starting pay is 25cpm. thats really low. i dont expect to make mega bucks at all, but that just seems low than any other research ive done.

You have to start somewhere. Get a year or so in with any large carrier, keep a clean record, and move up. There's no reason for any carrier to pay a new driver big money...you don't have any experience.
You haven't even gone to truck driving school or actually driven a truck yet, and you aren't happy with the pay? Wait until you are out here a few years.

So what was the letter?
-
and i would say if you got that letter there is a good chance the other companies will also find out what ever it is and also DQ you. most companies all get their information from the same place.

OFTOTR, i don't expect to make big money as a new guy. but like you and everyone else, i have bills to pay, a family to support, etc. i know i have to start at the bottom and work my way up, im not a kid. i know how the work force works. but would you make a serious life decision and commitment if the pay wasnt worth it?
mdmedicgod, basically it was a background check. but the title of the letter is what concerns me. when i researched what a pre adverse action letter was, its just that a pre... the actual adverse action letter is usually a denial of employment. by law an employer has to notify you twice if they make a hiring decision based on anything from your background check. if they find something you lied about on your application for example. which is what i think happened to me. i didn't lie, i did however forget to list two speeding tickets and that was on the report. so i think thats it.
derwood, swift has already notified me that they have the check back and want to continue with the hiring process. i didnt forget the tickets on their app.123456 Thanks this. -
Choosing a training company because they are close to the house? It only lasts 3 weeks and you are off to the wild blue yonder. That should not be part of your decision of why to pick a company. If you are going to be a truck driver you will be living on the road. The only good thing about a local company is picking a truck up and turning it in. In between you are anywhere in the country.
You should research what company that travels your lanes and it will open up a whole bunch more possibilities.
As for your denial you will have to clean up that problem either with an expungement or wait out the time frame.
The first year is rough no matter where you go.
EDIT: You posted the same time I did. Two speeding tickets won't keep you from getting hired. Three will. Not disclosing information is considered the same as lying. Just apply to another company and tell them. All traffic violations are required by the federal regulations that an employer has to know about. -
This is exactly why I am going down to the DMV today to get an official copy of my MVR. I was in an accident back in 2008, and thought it was on my record, however even though I listed it, when swift ran my records it was not there, and she told me my record was spotless. Although I figured most companies get the same record, now that I am in private school instead, I am afraid if it really IS there and I leave it off of all my pre-hire apps while I'm in school it could come back to bite me in the arse. It will cost me $9 for a certified record so that I know EXACTLY what is or is not on my record. It seems like for most of these companies, with minor infractions (if there are any) it is the suspicion that you are lying or trying to hide something that gets you in trouble. Forgetting about something is not an acceptable excuse to them.

That is pretty much the average starting pay in the industry with no experience. In fact Ive heard of lower. The only company I know of that raises your pay faster is TMC, but you have to be willing to do flatbed work.
