Shippers and recievers are gone with the drivers when it comes to stuff like this. I'd go as far as saying some shippers probably wouldn't care if you walked in in your birthday suit.

Downshifting while slowing, using engine braking even if the jakes are not on (is there more than one jake? Hehehehe) saves brakes. Something I think most companies encourage.
Let me tell you, all company drivers are on non-stop probationary status. Some even double secret probation! Hit a curb and knock the plastic bumper off and you are hit with a "preventable accident" on your record. One more paint scratch and you could be pink-slipped.

Drive your own trip. Dont let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. Remember it's on you not them.
-
Did you see that he was on a company road test? Not the best time to "drive your own trip".
MikeeeeGhost Ryder Thanks this. -
When you're driving a company truck hauling their freight, you drive how they tell you. You do not make up your own rules in this job. It may seem stupid, but it's done for a reason. Just like how the military wants you to fold your underware a certain way during basic. Dumb rule, but there's a purpose behind it.

Yeah it was well said but I am impressed when a trucker passes me doing 85 up a mountain
-
Well... take your weekly paycheck then, and pay his fuel bill for the day. See how impressed you are then.

yeah i was on company road test...the downshifting isnt a big deal, i just got into the habit of slowing, then shifting into 2nd or 3rd when stopped...its a simple thing to correct so im not going to lose sleep over it. on the good side, today was my first day with a trainer. we did two loads of butane (average) and once i get the steps down, it wont be that hard...
